Does everything take the red shift as you are catching up with light that has already passed you? Or Blue shift because you are outpacing the light behind you? Or is it dark?alphabits wrote:If you're traveling faster than the speed of light and you flip a light switch ..... what happens?green1 wrote:And if when flying you step from one quanta to the next in line are you traveling faster then the speed of light?alphabits wrote:So, if you fly on Quantas, are you in one large continuous plane or is it actually a series of unspeakably tiny "quantas"?green1 wrote:Nah, that's Quantas and they are the only airline to not have a an accident. I tried really hard to understand this little exchange. Then I got this sharp pain in the center of my brain and blood came out of my nose. Now I know what an aneurysm feels like.green1 wrote:Does everything take the red shift as you are catching up with light that has already passed you? That's the second time this week I've heard someone say that. How bizarre. Victoria had an audition earlier this week and one of the other auditioners asked how old she was and responded with that when she said she was 11. Bizarre.Lightning Bolt wrote:"..this one goes to 11."green1 wrote:That was all I had.alphabits wrote:Truthfully, my head exploded about three posts ago.FunkHouse9 wrote:I tried really hard to understand this little exchange. There is a small (let's be real - a VERY SMALL) but finite probability that when you fly on Quantas, you and your fellow passengers, along with the airplane itself, could instantaneously disappear in Sydney and reappear in Los Angeles, in much the same way that electrons change energy levels.alphabits wrote:So, if you fly on Quantas, are you in one large continuous plane or is it actually a series of unspeakably tiny "quantas"?green1 wrote:Nah, that's Quantas and they are the only airline to not have a an accident. But it wouldn't be a practical way to travel. While you waited on the tarmac for such an unlikely event to occur, you could possibly be waiting more years than are left in the lifetime of this universe.
Of course, it might seem to you that you have already had this kind of 'waiting' experience in an airplane.
To help you through these troubling experiences, I offer you the same advice Einstein offered to folks who suffered the slow ticking of the clock while waiting in boarding lounges (or in line for takeoff) - "the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." Einstein didn't worry about 'time' and neither should you.

the probability is 1 x 10^38 universes. it's the one thing i remember from my quantum physic class in college.flyboy55 wrote: There is a small (let's be real - a VERY SMALL) but finite probability that when you fly on Quantas, you and your fellow passengers, along with the airplane itself, could instantaneously disappear in Sydney and reappear in Los Angeles, in much the same way that electrons change energy levels.

Time is merely a concept put forth by the ancients to make worriers of us all.alphabits wrote:Then why the heck did I have to set my clocks back an hour this past weekend?flyboy55 wrote:Einstein didn't worry about 'time' and neither should you.
-what time do I pick up my daughter?
