The salad days for President Obama seem to be over before they even begin. The Russian's appear to be testing the waters of post-Bush America. Stating that they will deploy tactical missles to target Poland if the US continues in it's plan to build a missle defense shield in Europe.

I know that LB, but this pronouncement at this time is not random. Obama is already receiving security briefs. This will be on his shoulders as soon as he gets in office. They are already trying his mettle.Lightning Bolt wrote:The President-elect doesn't take office for over 70 days.
What more do you want to see our current guy do?
Putin's...er, Medvedev's... call to action is a response to our/NATO's missile deployment.

Again, this is a response to our own ambitions for the region.green1 wrote:I know that LB, but this pronouncement at this time is not random. Obama is already receiving security briefs. I'm thinking maybe we DON'T try to keep escalating the stakes for an otherwise stable front.
$#@&...only Vegas again?? Padres ...gotta start believin'!Bring on '14 Spring Training!

Poland has asked for the shield as a member of NATO. And as a member of NATO it will be protected by the other members.Lightning Bolt wrote:Again, this is a response to our own ambitions for the region.green1 wrote:I know that LB, but this pronouncement at this time is not random. My point is that Obama will now have another international crisis to deal with as soon as he steps into office. It will be interesting to see how he deals with it. It may well be a bellweather for his international policy for the remainder of his tenure. Which I am sure other nations are thinking as well. He will be tested sooner rather than later it seems.

Putin and the hardliners are pushing to get back to the status quo of the former USSR or perhaps seem to think they can rebuild better. They have their own share of problems.
I am quite sure Obama is going to have quite a bit of testing and face a a lot of "saber rattling" during his whole term. Both will be from outside and inside this country. He is the new kid on the block and is going to have to prove himself to our nation and to the world.
