Those who see my posts know I'm a Mom to the bone...my first baby is 18 and a Senior this year. He is my level headed, sensible kid. (Mollie is DRAMATIC but I love them both more than the world!)
Jim is a football player. Number 72, defensive tackle for Henry Co. High School. He is 6'1" and 268 lbs...NOT a small kid but he LOVES the sport and is a great tackle and has played offense and defense. This year, being his last (he doesn't want to play in college) he wanted to team to do well, obviously. They went TEN AND ZERO!!! A completely undefeated year! Then, last night, under the moon and stars, my baby boy suited up. Pads, jersey...cowboy collar...and they beat the team from Memphis 48-7!!! That was the first play off game. Next Friday (at home!!) they will play for the quarterfinals!! Then it's semis and then the final playoff game. We were one game shy of making it to the playoff game last year and we lost 2 in the season. To make it even nicer, the only other team to have a perfect season in the entire life of HCHS was the 1985 team,. They lost in the 3rd game of the playoffs. The game ball was brought to the field by the 1985 team, all in their jerseys!! It was a very cool sight. They all were shaking hands and hugging the 2009 boys and congratulating them. And I sat there in the stands, screaming like a the Mom I am. I am so proud of those boys and especially proud of Jim.
Go Patriots and GO #72!!!

My sport in high school was tennis. Like Jim, I never planned on playing in college, so senior year was my last hurrah. That year, playing in the toughest division in the state, we made team play-offs for the first time in school history. I'm still convinced that the reason why we lost in the quarterfinals was because our best two players got hurt and we had to slide everyone up two spots.
Regardless, enjoy the ride!!!
