If anyone wants an idea of what hell might look like, come on over. Things just continue to get worse. It is so unbelievably dry...we're talking 4% humidity. FOUR F'ING PERCENT! I'm afraid of what tomorrow morning will bring.

I was supposed to be on the road through Sylmar and the Newhall Pass this morning...I am thanking my lucky stars that the fire broke out last night and not while I was driving through it, but my heart breaks for those who lost everything.

Others are indicating that it is God's response, comparing California to Sodom and Gomorrah. I certainly hope that the fires weren't set and wish the focus could be on repairing the lives of those of have been so drastically shaken.

Why are so many people willing to believe that brush fires are "God's way of punishing California," but pay no attention to the tornadoes that rip through places like Kansas (where they're still trying to outlaw teaching evolution) every year? There's lots more tornadoes in KS in the average year than big brushfires in CA.

I used to know people who lived in the mobile home park that was destroyed in the *last* round of fires a month or so ago, and I've hiked and spent time in places that are either burning now, or very near fire zones. I've been near big fires, and been worried about a couple of them possibly taking out the homes of friends and family, over the past thirty-some years. Personally, I don't think God plays favorites.

My thoughts and prayers are with *everyone* affected by this - the people losing their homes, the people who are evacuated wondering if they'll have homes to come back to, the firefighters and other emergency responders who are trying to save those homes and lives.

So Far San Diego county has been spared this time around (knock on wood). But all it takes is one car to backfire, one idiot flipping a cigarette out the window, one criminal with a lighter and then its on. My prayers go out to everyone north of us. I prefer to think that everything east of the Sierras, with the possible exception of Key West, would have fallen into the Atlantic. It's the romantic in me.

I live about 30 miles from the nearest fire but their are ashes everywhere...You cant even go outside without being hit by a small downfall...
