Driving north on the 405 today towards the valley there is a ton of smoke and it is obvious it is still burning. It was quite a site.

Have been following these fires all day. We've had many fires in CA over the years but this time it's is really scary. Past years many of the fires were in somewhat remote areas with a few homes sprinkled around, these fires are in very populated areas. Just saw a newscast of the Yorba Linda fire. The T.V. newscaster said if you live in Yorba Linda to evacuate,....the population of that town is 64 thousand. That's a lot of people.......

If anyone wants an idea of what hell might look like, come on over. Things just continue to get worse. It is so unbelievably dry...we're talking 4% humidity. FOUR F'ING PERCENT! :o :-? :-? I'm afraid of what tomorrow morning will bring.

I was supposed to be on the road through Sylmar and the Newhall Pass this morning...I am thanking my lucky stars that the fire broke out last night and not while I was driving through it, but my heart breaks for those who lost everything. :(

Aside from the devastation, its sad that some reports and blogs are indicating that the fires were set in response to Proposition 8. Others are indicating that it is God's response, comparing California to Sodom and Gomorrah. I certainly hope that the fires weren't set and wish the focus could be on repairing the lives of those of have been so drastically shaken.

I call bullsh!t on that. No one even knows the origin of the fires other than it was a classic Santa Ana/red flag condition. Determining origin and cause are so far down the line right now...saving people and property is the only goal for now. Sounds to me like a bunch of bloggers looking for some attention are trying to stir the pot.

I agree wholeheartedly, why can't the attention be on putting lives and homes back together, but some people have to work their agenda into everything.

Was north of Yorba Linda/Corona/Anaheim fires this a.m. shortly after they broke out (going to Riverside). Could just see the smoke coming over the hills then. Watched the news this afternoon/eve then decided we should head home. I took another fwy further north of fires and we could see a long line of flames and smoke in two different area - looked like they were going to meet up  I know a few people in the areas on fire, but haven't been able to contact anyone. I'm sending thoughts and prayers to both the rescue workers and those that live in the affected areas.

I was in Ontario Ca yesterday. As we were driving south on the 15 freeway we could begin to see smoke in the distance to the south of us and commented about there being "a fire." At this point we had only heard of the Monteceito fire but knew this smoke was not related (wrong direction). As we continued to drive it became very obvious this was not a single structure fire. The massive amount of smoke along the horizon was shocking. Basically the entire horizon out the front window was smoke (many miles ahead of us....but none-the-less.....spooky to see that much smoke).

We were so shocked and saddend to see the news later when we got home and saw pictures and footage of what we had seen earlier from a distance. We have driven through that area many times on our travels through So Ca .....so so very sad. So many homes.

We continue to watch the news this morning and have everyone involved in our thoughts and prayers. Our firefighters are awesome heroes!
