Close Encounters of the Buffett Kind
Moderator: SMLCHNG
in 2004, JB did a rally in downtown Tampa for Democratic Senate candidate Betty Castor. I got to the park like two hours before the show and was front row...Stephen Stills came and they sang Southern Cross and Teach Your Children together...it was pretty cool. Afterwards, JB signed my Betty Castor sign that I picked up that day.
A few Sundays back, he did an Obama concert here in Tampa. Again, I arrived about two hours before the gates opened and the line wasn't as long as I thought. Somehow, I managed to land a spot in the front row (gotta love General Admission). I picked up an Obama-Biden t-shirt on the way in but never put it on. At the end of the show I held it up and he waved for me to throw it to him. He then ran and grabbed his flip-flops (size 9) and threw them out to me. The whole experience lives in YouTube infamy at the end of the Last Mango in Paris (for Capt. Tony that day) clip. I was pretty excited, although I haven't managed to figure out to do with his flip-flops yet.
I must say, it pays being a Parrothead and a Democrat who lives in Florida.
And one time I was having dinner in Newport, RI, and Tony Bennett came in and sat at the table next to me....

Dude, Harry hit that dance floor with a vengeance. He was almost as big a lady killer as Jimmy is.Frank4 wrote:Bwana Paul wrote:I'll have to tell you guys about when Harry Belafonte and I went out and about to chase the ladies.

Back in '87 we were on the Conch Train in Key West when the guide exclaimed, "And there goes Jimmy Buffett!" pointing to a guy on a bike. We could only see the fellow from behind and it did look like Bubba but it probably wasn't.
Also in (I'm trying to remember, February 2002 or 2003) Jacksonville, Fla., we stayed downtown at the Omni and as were going down the elevator headed to Jimmy's concert that night, dressed in our parrothead finery, a guy in the elevator told us he met Jimmy in the hotel there that morning, but we never had any Buffett sightings in the hotel ourselves.

I don't remember that, but okay if you say so, Sweetie!Parrotthed wrote:Back in '87 we were on the Conch Train in Key West when the guide exclaimed, "And there goes Jimmy Buffett!" pointing to a guy on a bike. Y'all, this is my hun-bun. He doesn't post much, but he got me on Buffett News, and I loves him.

Never met him, but my brother in law hung out with Fingers Taylor in Ocean City and my mother in law met several of the Coral Reefers (she couldn't remember who, but from her description, I think it was Mac, Peter, Doyle and somebody I can't place).
When Buffett played AC a couple of years ago, my mother went with us and got lost in one of the casinos when she had to go back to her car. She ended up on an elevator with those guys and they helped her get back to us. She says they were all really nice.

My wife and I were among the lucky 5 or 6 chosen to dance on stage with him during WDWGDAS at the Millenium Concert (remember, the all you can eat / drink fiasco) on NYE in Los Angeles, CA. Didn't get to "meet" him, per se, but he came over after the song and said thanks to us all. No handshakes - his security guys were pretty clear with us about "no grabbing Jimmy, no hugging Jimmy, etc."
An amazing moment.
