And others just don't wanna post anything for either side. :)

I'm with you Larry....here we go again  ...just when things were getting back to normal, people have to drag us back down into this sh*t...the mud slinging will be next, and then we'll see new threads badmouthing Obama for his cabinet choices etc.
Way yo go....Thanks [smilie=thumbdown.gif]
You're welcome. I'm sorry you take it so personally that she can't throw mud on herself fast enough.
I could care less about Palin...I do care about BN, and what these type of threads do to it.
Any thread, about any politician, is going to be divisive, and cause hard feelings for some. There will be some that will take this thread as badmouthing the Republicans ( whether it was meant that way or not), and will feel if it's Ok to Bash Palin, then they can start threads about Obama.
We are bombarded with this stuff from all angles everyday. Wouldn't it be nice to have a place where you could get away from all of it? BN used to be my "stress free zone" where I could unwind from all the daily BS...then came election season and I almost gave up on BN because it lost it's feel good vibe. I'd just hate to see us go back to that, and feel this thread could/might start us back down that road.
Well I'm sorry if my posting of something that's all over the news websites anyway brings BN down. I sure didn't see many republicans standing up for Obama and saying what a good person he is despite the bad press. I did see that for McCain. I know because I posted stuff like that.

I trust that you will all practice what you preach and the next time Obama or Biden or Hillary gets caught shooting their friend in the face with a shotgun, making pro-segregationist comments at a Dixiecrat's birthday party, soliciting gay sex in an airport bathroom, texting sexually related comments to underage male congressional paiges, leading a nation into an unjust war, or pardoning a turkey with a background of turkeys being slaughtered, I expect you and all of the others crying foul to show the same restraint you all are accusing me of lacking.
I believe I have done that. I do have opinions on a broad range of political subjects...but don't think BN is the place to discuss them and believe most of my posts in the election threads were for restraint and finding common ground. I also believe I was among the first of those that didn't vote for Obama to congratulate him and wish him the best, and ask others that didn't vote for him to give him a chance.
I do not think every thread has to be touchy feely, as was suggested in another post. But I do think we can enjoy funny threads that aren't divisive and offensive to many. No, with 21,000 people in this forum we won't always get along. But it doesn't take a brain surgeon to know that any thread about a political candidate will always be divisive and lead to hurt feelings. I just don't see the need for them and the negativity they bring.

I think the very vocal minority clearly outshouted those in the gray area. There was plenty of talk of how the world is going down the toilet now that Obama was elected. I even created a thread to separate the positive from the negative to help spare feelings, but it was locked. 4 years ago a similar thread was allowed to stay for 28 pages and at one point in it was referred to as the "conservative gloating dept."

I can't speak for 4 years ago, other than it is what it was. And it stayed civil..
I had previously started a poll about "two threads" before your thread started, and folks voted no, they didn't want two threads.

Here's my question. If the worm lives because you do not wash your hands after using the bathroom, just where was that worm before, and how exactly is this person wiping her bum?

Four years ago, I was very disappointed by the results.

You gave it a chance, and for the complainers here who wish things were different....should really just stay away from the subject for a while.

No matter what anyone says, whenever feathers get ruffled in an "Off Topic" thread, the mood and negativity and jabs at each other definitely spill over into the Social, JB Discussion, or whatever other section of the board someone posts in.

Your poll was to see if people wanted a Republican, a Democrat and an Independent thread where everybody could be like-minded in their discussion. I think even heated debate can be healthy, so I was against pushing us into our own corners. I did not think voting no meant we were thus restricted to the one thread most of the debate was happening in.

I'm willing to bet it stayed civil because, and I've said this before, I think Democrats are much more likely to roll over and cry amongst ourselves when bullied and defeated. The Republicans do far more mudslinging and seem to raise much more of a fuss when called on their faults and hypocracies, which is the case here. If the election had gone the other way and this thread had been about Biden, the Dems here wouldn't be crying and saying leave him alone. We'd either s*** it up or shut up because it's obvious that it's justified. I say that because I TRULY believe that. I'm sorry some can't handle reality. I didn't write a sonnet on her being a nutjob. I posted something that is real. Reality bites.

yes there is some negativity that ended up in the threads - no doubt about it. You're also missing the point that there's also negativity in non political threads. Heck I know people that get offended quite often in the cafe. What are we going to do - list a whole bunch of rules for what you can post? There are simply things that offend some while others they aren't offended. We're not clones we're people, with different opinions, views and even morals. Sometimes it's not just as simple as a lack of respect but rather human differences. It would be damn boreing if we were all the same

For the most part, I tried to stay out of a lot of the political threads, even to the point of not posting at all for about 3 weeks. Now, I'll probably get at the very least an extended timeout but at this point I really don't give a f**k.

During the presidential campaign, if anyone said anything about Obama that showed less than ass-kissing adoration or didn't seem like the poster was trying to earn a pair of presidential kneepads by dropping down and humming Hail To The Chief, somebody would get their panties in a wad and start whining like a little b**** about how offensive it was. Not one of those assholes ever said anything about people calling George Bush "shrub". Not one of those assholes ever said anything about the pictures of George Bush looking like Alfred E. Neumann. Not one of those assholes ever said anything when someone used a picture of George Bush with the caption "American Idiot" as an avatar for at least 2 weeks. Not one of those assholes said anything about the Bush, McCain or Palin bashing.

Yet, as soon as the chosen one from Illinois won the election, all we heard was calls for "support", "unity" and "an end to the diviseness." I was willing to believe the people making these calls were sincere. I don't think it's any secret that I wasn't an Obama supporter, but I wasn't a McCain supporter either. I haven't voted for either of the major party candidates for President in the last 3 elections. But when some guy starting bashing Obama in the "Congratulations" thread that was started right after the election I ripped into him, to the point that I was warned by a moderator, both publicly on the board and in a PM, to stop. Then the first chance someone gets to post something putting Palin in a bad light, there it is. And I'm sorry, but I don't buy the bull$hit about posting it no matter who was in the video. If it was some obscure politician or a non-celebrity nobody would give a s*** because the left wing assholes wouldn't have a chance to bash Palin. What a pack of f**** hypocrites.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

And were you not being a hypocrite by pointing out that others were being hypocritical and then posting the picture of the commander in chief? IMHO it just looked like you were waiting for someone to post something that you could jump their shiat on.
