Where does the middle ground lie? I dunno.

If they bug you, don't respond.
I've done that.........force their hand, and made them call. :) [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

Perhaps a combination of the two would be appropriate...some people might prefer to RSVP online while others would prefer the old fashioned way.

What I do know when I need an RSVP, I don't care how it comes.
I agree........that's a whole other issue right there Why do people not respond  :-? uughhh

I love them for less-than-formal occasions. Weddings, big anniversary parties, etc, deserve a snail mail intive. But anything that would normally get a phone call invite, an e-vite is great.

My S-I-L used an e-vite for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it because five households with a combined 12 kids playing sports and everyone working one or sometimes two jobs didn't have to play several days worth of phone tag.

Personally I hate them.....you want me to come to your party, but you can't even pick up the phone to ask me to it?

I just think they're a little on the rude side  :-?

And this isn't for all e-vites, but most, generally speaking, there certainly are circumstances in which they are fine, but..........
At least you were invited somewhere
They are good for a cookout, girls/guys night out...fun things...

I don't call unless it is less than 8 people...9 or more e-vite, since people tend to spend more time on the computer than reading regular mail... if it is a Special Day - mile-marker birthday, anniversary...things like that, then written invitation....
Otherwise I kind of like them, you know what people are bringing, if contributing to food is asked and you can see who is going...
Interesting concept Holly, maybe I'll lighten up a bit.

The latest one that got me started on this was it's for a surprise 60th b'day party, and no one has to bring anything :-?

This is one of those situations I find acceptable also, however my e-vite for Christmas dinner was not under those same circumstances. Most everyone is home at nite, no little kids having us out for this or that or the other thing, and it's only a matter of 3 phone calls :-?

I wouldn't even mind one in that situation, mostly so everyone is on the same page for time, etc, but followed up with a phone call to coordinate who's bringing what, etc (which is also what we did for Thanksgiving).

Get it all done w/one phone call, Hi you coming, dinner's at whatever time, and you'll be bringing what?
1 phone call, all done :)

True, but with our family it would also generate 5 or 10 phone calls later: "What time was dinner again? What time do you want us there?" Now we can just glance back at the e-vite.

I would definately agree that they are not appropriate for weddings, especially formal ones but..........
I really like getting the RSVPs, and knowing what people are bringing, and they can also edit and change without having to call me.
I have even used the ones where you can add other people and that really help to know who someone else has ivited to the event and how to prepare.

We use them for smaller gatherings, it's a great way to communicate. They have some really cool designs there...

Funny thing is my wife just sent an evite out for our annual Christmas party this morning
