Scott Kirby Lyrics?

Post by ScarletB »

Anyone know where I can find lyrics to his songs? I got one of his CD's at MOTM and I'm loving it except I'm anal retentive enough to want to learn all the words that I can't quite get from listening.

Thanks!

Which CD did you get?

I probably have a lot of the song lyrics stored somewhere.

This is the only one I found for now:

I was just reading this thread as Scott Kirby's song "The Sun Never Came Up" came on while I'm listening to WALKING ON THIN ICE. It was written with Roger Guth.

This song is just one of the best!

Scott says:
I was sitting in a hotel bar somewhere near Palm Beach when I heard on television that Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys had died. I wrote most of these lyrics early the next morning in the hotel room.

THE SUN NEVER CAME UP

Verse 1
HEARD SOME BAD NEWS ON THE TUBE LAST NIGHT
WHILE SITTING AT THE HOTEL BAR
I TOOK A DEEP BREATH AND FINISHED MY TEQUILA
AND WENT OUT TO LOOK AT THE STARS
DAWN SEEMED TO COME WITH A STRUGGLE
AS I WALKED THE SIX MILES TO THE BEACH
I SAT MYSELF DOWN ON THE OLD SEA WALL
AND LEARNED ONCE AGAIN WHAT THE SEA COULD TEACH

chorus
AND THE SUN IT NEVER CAME UP,
AND THE SURF IT NEVER CAME IN,
AN OLD BEACH BUM ON AN OLD BEACH BLANKET SAID
I'LL NEVER SURF AGAIN
AND THE GIRL FROM CALIFORNIA
WITH HER LIFE IN A SHOPPING CART
SANG GOD ONLY KNOWS TO HER TRANSISTOR RADIO,
AND ROLLED OFF IN THE DARK

verse 2
I SAT THERE WAITING FOR THE TIDE TO TURN
BUT THIS DAY THE WATER LAY LOW
THE BIG GRAY OCEAN LAY FLAT AND STILL
NO WARMTH OF THE SUN, NO EBB AND FLOW
AND THE BOYS WITH THEIR BOARDS IN THE PICKUP TRUCKS
LOOKED AROUND AND SAID MAN WHAT GOES
THE BEACH BUM SAID, BOYS THERE'S NO SURFIN
ALL THE BEACHES ARE CLOSED

chorus

verse 3
THE BOYS PUT THEIR BOARDS IN THE PICKUP TRUCK
AND DROVE OFF IN THE RAIN
THE OLD BEACH BUM PACKED HIS OLD BEACH BLANKET
AND SHUFFLED OFF TO CATCH THE TRAIN
AND THE GIRL FROM CALIFORNIA
WITH HER LIFE IN A SHOPPING CART
SANG GOD ONLY KNOWS TO HER TRANSISTOR RADIO
AND ROLLED OFF IN THE DARK

chorus

I love Scott Kirby

A night on the beach is great :)

Once you've slept on an island.

Walking on thin ice is great too :)

What songs Pam?

Oh so long ago...Scott Kirby and Bobby Donaldson played on a beach in Galveston. What a magical time.

Always one of my favorites!

And I, like Scarlett, wanted to hear all the lyrics and I think I typed them all out somewhere and remember seeing them in 2007.  (Yeah, I can go look at everyone of the liner notes too) :-?

I was going on memory, which is not a good thing.

There is only one set of lyrics, for the cd "4 Good Dogs" on the website. Go to Music / Select an Album and there you are.

Most of his cd's have the lyrics in the liner notes; "A Night On The Beach" is the exception....and there are several songs on that one that don't appear on any other.

So far I only have "A Night on the Beach" and I just can't quite catch the words to some of the songs. I love "Heart of a Beach Town" "Northern Town" but the one I can't quite get all the words to is "Last Flying Boat"

I tried the website too but couldn't find lyrics anywhere.

Thanks for the suggestions though!

I just transcribed I TRIED... (I'll work on the others too; it's fun listening to all the songs again.)

not really sure of all the lyrics for it. It's a fun song:

04 I Tried

VERSE 1
SAILED INTO THIS ISLAND PORT
SHE RODE IN ON HER GOLDEN HORSE AND SMILED
SAID I MIGHT HAVE KNOWN YOU LONG AGO
IT'S DIFFICULT FOR ME TO KNOW
BEEN SUCH A LONG, LONG WHILE
AND I HELD HER CLOSE BESIDE HER
AND SHE WHISPERED IN MY EAR
IF YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU
YOU'LL SAIL RIGHT OUT OF HERE

CHORUS
I TRIED HEY,I TRIED
TRIED...AYE AYE IDE
TO SAY GOOD-BYE

VERSE 2
I WAS FEELING DOWN AND LOW
WHEN YOU RODE OFF TO MEXICO TO HIDE
SO I SAILED TO HAVANA TOWN
AND RAN MYSELF TO HARD AGROUND
AND I DON'T KNOW WHY
AND NOW YOU'RE SIPPING MARGARITAS
NEATH A MOSQUITO'S MOON
A CUBAN CRIME OF PASSION
BABE, I'LL BE THERE SOON

CHORUS

BRIDGE
YEAH, I TRIED TO SAIL AWAY
HEADED OUT TO SEA
YOU GOT RIGHT BACK ON YOUR HORSE
AND RODE RIGHT AFTER ME
A THOUSAND YEARS TOGETHER
HEY, BABY,THAT'S THE WAY IT'S GOTTA BE

MUSIC BRIDGE

VERSE 4
I KICK OFF THESE SILLY SHOES
YOU'LL SLIDE INTO YOUR COWBOY BOOTS AND RIDE
BABY, WE GOT IT DOWN
TOGETHER IN THIS ONE BEACH TOWN TONIGHT
AND THE DOCKERS ROLLS AROUND
AND WE'RE STILL STRANDED IN THE SAND
BE MY MIDNIGHT COWGIRL
I'LL BE YOUR ONE MAN BAND

CHORUS

Pam,
Heart of A Beach Town in on 4 Good Dogs and posted on the web site

http://www.scottkirby.com/AUDIO/lyrics4 ... ABeachTown

10 The Heart Of A Beach Town

verse 1
STREETS ARE EMPTY AND THE COAST IS CLEAR
LOCAL FACES SMILING EAR TO EAR
SNOW IS FALLING, EMPTY SEATS AT THE BAR
WE KNOW WHO WE ARE

chorus
EMPTY BEACHES JUST A BOY AND HIS DOG
ICE BLUE WATER BREAKS ON SNOW COVERED ROCKS
OLD MAN WINTER YOU AIN’T GETTING ME DOWN
CAUSE THIS IS THE HEART (heart)
THIS IS THE HEART (heart)
THIS IS THE HEART (heart)
THIS IS THE HEART, OF A BEACH TOWN

verse 2
STRANGERS ARE SCREAMING SIMULTANEOUSLY
I KNEW EVERYBODY ON THAT ISLAND BUT ME
SOME OLD DRIFTWOOD THE TIDE PLANTED ME HERE
IT'S SO PERFECTLY CLEAR

chorus

bridge
THIS OLD HOUSE IS MOANING
AND THIS OLD HOUSE IS GROANING
AS THE NIGHT WIND ROARS WITH A RAGE
AND THAT PERFECT STORM PASSES
AND THE SUN COMES OUT
AND THE BOYS ARE OUT CATCHING THEIR WAVES

music bridge

verse 3
ICICLES ARE SHEDDING THEIR TEARS OF SPRING
GULLS ARE LAUGHING AND THEY’RE SPREADING THEIR WINGS
TOURISTS PLANNING FOR THE SUMMER TO START
WAITING TO BREAK THE HEART, OF MY TOWN

chorus

music to end...

13 Last Flying Boat

verse 1
SHE WAS BORN TO GLIDE ACROSS THE WATER
RAISED TO SAIL TO THE SUN
NOW SHE LIES ON HER BELLY IN THE JUNGLE
AN OLD SEABIRD WHOSE TIME HAS COME
AND SHE'S SEEN THE TRAINS OF THE ANGELS
THE ELEPHANTS AND LIONS COME AND GO
AND SHE DREAMS OF HER HANDSOME SHADOW
DANCING ON THE SERENGETI FLOOR

CHORUS
SHE WAS THE LAST FLYING BOAT IN AFRICA
STAR OF THE SKY AND SEA
SHE CAN FLY SHE CAN DANCE
IF SHE ONLY HAD THE CHANCE
SHE'S A LOT LIKE ME
SHE'S A LOT LIKE ME

VERSE 2
SHE'S THE LAST LEAF ON THE GUMBO LIMBO
LAST FLYING FISH IN THE SEA
AND SHE'S BEEN IN HOT WATER FROM JAMAICA TO GIBRALTER
TO THE COAST OF IVORY
AND SHE'S SEEN THE TRAINS OF THE ANGELS
SPLASHED IN VICTORIA'S LAKE
AND SHE'S BEEN TO KHALIHARI, CRUISED EQUATOR ALLEY
AND JUST NEEDS ONE MORE BREAK.

CHORUS

MUSIC BRIDGE

VERSE 3
SHE WAS BORN TO GLIDE ACROSS THE WATER
RAISED TO SAIL TO THE SUN
NOW SHE LIES ON HER BELLY IN THE JUNGLE
AND OLD SEABIRD WHOSE TIME HAS COME
AND SHE'S SEEN THE TRAINS OF THE ANGELS
SPLASHED IN VICTORIA'S LAKE
AND SHE'S BEEN TO KHALIHARI, CRUISED EQUATOR ALLEY
AND JUST NEEDS ONE LAST BREAK.

CHORUS

Can't beat "Northern Town"..lot of similarities to Maine being stuck in Northern Michigan.
Got a carribean soul I can barely control

Thanks SO much, geez, I can't believe you sat and did that. Those were the two I still had "blanks" in!

I agree about Northern Town - I think that's why I was attracted to his music anyway, the fact that he sings about the part of the coast that I live the closest to. :)

Hey, Caly. I just saw your post. Let me check and see what I have posted and what I can find.

I have a new computer since then and have no idea if I still can find all of Scott's lyrics.

I'll enjoy going back and listening to some of Scott's lyrics again.

I'm a little tied up with Easter things and golf, but I will fire up the old laptop and see what I did and finish the calling.

I do love Scott's lyrics.
