I don't know if it's the "greatest Christmas song ever", but one that I like is a Scottish carol, "Child of My Heart". I love the visual.

Child of my heart,
So quiet in the dark,
The dreams of the earth and sky enfold you.
Sleep through the night
And with the morning light
The hand and the song of God will hold you.

All of the earth
Rejoices at your birth,
Circling in joy and laughter!
Star overhead
Shines softly on your bed
And peeks through the windows and the rafters.

Child of my heart,
So quiet in the dark,
The dreams of the earth and sky enfold you.
Sleep through the night
And with the morning light
The hand and the song of God will hold you.

Darkness is deep
Yet angels guard your sleep,
Softly around you winging.
Gentle and still,
The meadow and the hill
Still carry the echo of their singing.

Child of my heart,
So quiet in the dark,
The dreams of the earth and sky enfold you.
Sleep through the night
And with the morning light
The hand and the song of God will hold you.
More wagging, less barking.

I also love "O Holy Night" in French, especially the "fall on your knees" part. In French it is (please forgive any spelling errors):

"Peuple, a genoux!
Attends ta delivrance!"

"People, to your knees!
Await your deliverance!"

It reflects so much the end of the waiting, and the expectation and joy of Christmas Eve.
More wagging, less barking.

I have always loved "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" by Lennon. Having a december birthday I have always considered it a song of personal reflection for myself of "another year over and a new one just begun". I think more in terms of fave Christmas albums: Elvis, Twisted Sister, The Muppets and John Denver and that one guy.........ummm....Jimmy Buffett. :D Play all of those all the way thru many times each season. "HoHoHo and a Bottle of Rum"! :wench:

I gotta pick Silent Night.

My favorite church service is the Christmas Eve service at 11:00 pm. We close the service with the lights dimmed and only one candle lit which is then used to light candles that the congregation members are holding while singing Silent Night. It's so powerful to go from darkness to this wave of light passing thru the sanctuary as people pass the flame from person to person. As the service ends, you wish everybody Merry Christmas since it's after midnight and is now Christmas Day.

Bobby: No.

Hank : Well, there's really no wrong way to do it.

Actually another one of my favorites is O Holy Night :)

But seriously I also like the Messiah... It's just too bad that people don't do a Do It Yourself Messiah at Eastertime (when it's REALLY supposed to be sung during "Holy Week")

I heard one tonight on the way to work that I hadn't heard in a while-
"Christmas Is-a Comin'" by Bing Crosby.

It was really nice hearing that one-I'm really getting tired of White Christmas.
(Both the song and the weather here).
