This is one lucky bunch to be here today.
I'm betting there was a tire blowout on the 737's takeoff roll.
Veering off a runway doesn't just happen without a serious mechanical failure

The strong crosswind could have been a contributing factor. As I remember there are no takeoff crosswind limitations on the 737, only guidelines, and 30 kts is at the limit of most guidelines I remember. Crosswinds that high have the potential to cause engine surge or compressor stall on the downwind engine, as well as controllability problems associated with an engine failure or power loss below a certain speed. Interviews with the pilots and listening to the CVR will shed more light on this near disaster.

At least they didn't try to take off and aborted... Even though there were some injuries, there would likely have been a lot of deaths instead

Tinley Park - June 30, Alpine - ???, Vegas -???
