I generally start the car first before scraping the ice... Because generally you have to wait for the car to warm up before you can pull away anyway (otherwise even after scraping you still won't be able to see anything... It gives me something to do while waiting

Mrs. Al wanted a remote start for her car for her birthday. Unfortunately they don't make 1 for a Honda w/a stick shift. But they do make 1 for a Ford diesel pick up. Sorry dear but it works great!! I warm up the truck & by the time I get outside, most of the ice is gone.

How expensive are they?
I really want one....Baby,it's COLD outside!
Usually under $200, installed. Worth every penny..

My husband would agree with that -not very expensive at all & definitely worth every penny -he even uses it on hot days to get the car cool before he has to get in!!!

Definitely start the car first. Gives it a little time to semi-warm up before going somewhere.

Back in my previous lifetime as a college student in the frozen north; always started the car (with the heater set to defrost) then scraped the ice. kept the windows from refreezing, and meant I had a warmish car to get into after 10 minutes of ice scraping.
As soon as I graduated, I moved south to places where ice only comes from icemakers.

that depends on how cold it is. -20, if you can get them to fire, just results in a bluish tint to the ice already on the windshield..
Minnesota/MT technique:
Start coffee
get dressed to go outside
get in, start car
set defrosters to max
go back inside, take off outer layers
coffee now finished, so get a cup
look out window
sip coffee
finish coffee and get dressed to go outside
open car for second to grab scraper from under seat
work on windows
get in, put scraper beneath seat
leave

My preferred technique now is: get out of bed, take a shower, get dressed, walk 2 blocks to train station, get on train, get off train at Penn Station, walk to office.
Problem solved.

I scrape the ice by telling Hubby to put his hat and gloves on and get to it. I'm pretty sure he warms up the car first, then scrapes. Since we can't manage to park either of our running vehicles in the garage because of his Jeep and other guy-garage-stuff, I will have nothing to do with scraping snow/ice/whatevah off the cars.

Ice belongs in a cooler to keep beer cold and a mixed drink for the same reason...period! Not cars...thats silly

Always start car first, then scrape. Can't ever leave car, unless you have it locked and can remotely open it. That'll get you a ticket in CO.
But E usually gets mine cleaned off in the mornings before work.

I don't even shovel snow. That's what full size 4WD pickup trucks (Chevy Silverado Crew Cab) are for. Drive right over the stuff in the driveway and plow into and through the stuff the snowplows have placed at the end of the driveway.
Disclaimer. OK. So the wife makes me shovel the freakin' driveway so her Honda Odyssey Touring thingy (damb thing has about 4 inches ground clearance) can get in and out.
