I discovered Buffett and the lifestyle at just about the same time that I was leaving a very cultish, fundamentalist religion. To me, Jimmy Buffett is one of the only real prophets I've known. I hope I can emulate his attitude and his enthusiasm for life, relationships and adventure.

I love other people more
I can relax more
I like being uncertain about religion
I am less judgmental of others
I am less judgmental of myself
I am happier
I have less money :)

Well, JB has given me an appreciation of relaxing....I can put on his music in the dead of winter and I feel a little bit calm, little bit more relaxing and happier.

As for BN, I am so glad I joined. I love coming here and talking to everyone all the time. It's just such a great place to hang out

I'm way more laid back.

I have sand between my toes as much as possible.

There are more fruits in my cooking and mixed drinks, 8)

And my knowledge of Coastal Geography as grown by leaps and bounds.

I have a different outlook on our world.

Fins Up!

Jimmy, his music, BN, etc. all have varying degrees of importance in everyone's life - what has happened significant in your life because of Jimmy, his music, etc. Other than concert experiences, what do you do now that you would not, if it had not been for being a Parrothead?

For myself, there are the wonderful people I have met, online and in person, and the cities I have had a chance to visit while attending a concert. Perhaps the activity I love most now is "sailing". Something I attribute directly to Jimmy and his music. I've developed a love of the water and recently spent a week sailing the Chesapeake with two of my boys. What other tangible changes have you had in your life by being a Parrothead?
I always loved parties but moshing wasn't my style, I'm a born and raised metalhead from Virginia
but I have changed from someone that despised the name Buffett to a kid with more Buffett on his ipod than Ozzy,Manson,Motleycrue,Metallica,Quiet Riot, and many others COMBINED! :pirate:

Jimmy Buffett didn't lead me to my lifestyle. My lifestyle led me to Jimmy Buffett (a long time ago).

JB's Music is now included with the essentials in My Winter Survival Gear. The Relaxing and Positive and Fun and Enjoyable Music takes me to the beach also, even when it's 3 degrees outside my house here in the mountains.

Last Summer, thanks to this board, I had the PLEASURE of meeting two wonderful Parrotheads in the way of WAYNE AND CATHI at Miramar Beach.

Through email, before going on our trip, they took the time to tell us everything we asked about leading up to Our Anticipated Vacation.

We got to meet them on the beach on Day 2 of Our Vacation (Sigh. Vacation!). They had cold ones waiting for us. We were instant friends. PLUS......Wayne, being the amazing and generous person/chef that he is, SURPRISED MY WIFE and Brought Us some delicious homemade Seafood for Dinner one night. We got to eat his homemade seafood On Our Rented Beach House Deck. We toasted him that night and gave thanks.

JB's Music will now always remind us of GREAT PEOPLE, GREAT TIMES, RELAXATION and we have been blessed with the knowledge to know that Great People make up a majority of the fanbase.

Parrothead = A Good Life with the Possibility for Many Great Times Ahead! 8)

WOW - this is just a great question. One that I am sure we all ponder.

My story is similar to some of you guys. I can remember singing "lost shaker of salt" back in the 70's when I was in high school and trying to figure out what that meant. Needless-to-say, I found out a few years later while in college. When I landed my first real post-college job, I would play Jimmy's music non-stop as I was ironing shirts preparing for the next days work. I would be one of the first to buy the new albums when they came out. I couldn't wait to hear more life lesson from Bubba. My oldest (now 19) learned to sing Come Monday almost before he could talk. Countless nights on the porch and days on the beach have been spent listening to Jimmy. The music truly is a part of me. This pirate is staring 50 square in the face and I have no intention of changing my attitudes now. Thanks for the question that forced me to take quite the nostalgic look back.........and forward !!

I just read all of the posts, something I rarely do. Awesome stories.

For me, Jimmy has been profoundly impactful, as has the lifestyle.

I just turned 50, and am very blessed to have two stunning teenage daughters and a wife that is 12 years younger, and ten times hotter than my pay grade. My life has been good, with a 29 year career and now C level senior exec of a worldwide company with all the toys and savings that come with it.

Jimmy for me has been an escape, a jump to a great reality, and something to look forward to. The music has been awesome, Jimmy is a solid storyteller.

One big thing has been the concerts and tailgates. It is incredible to think I have attended 120 with the coming Irvine show, back where it all started in 1987 when I was just 28. I have flown to many, many, shows, rented and ruined many a Hertz SUV by dancing on the roofs at various shows I have flown into. I have slept in many parking lots in our tour bus after the show. The bus has "FINS BUS" on the license. My car has PIRET40.

Between my first and second marriages, I had the opportunity to bring around 7 or 8 different girlfriends/dates to the shows, some were Buffett Virgins. Needless to say, whether we were in Maui or Boston's Great Woods, these were incredible experiences. My wife is not only beautiful, she knows the words to EVERY song Jimmy sings in concert, our first date was at Margaritaville in Orlando and our third was the Ft. Lauderdale show five years ago. I asked her to marry me 90 days after our first date and loving every minute of it five years later.

I am a parrothead and it has changed my life.

Not at all, I get misty sometimes listening to songs REMEMBERING a concert! [smilie=battingeyes.gif] Once in a while I'll play the beginning of YNWITBA (You'll never work etc live version) just to hear the change in the crowd noise level when Jimmy comes out.
And "Hot Hot Hot" never ever fails to bring a smile if I hear it somewhere unexpectedly.

How has being a parrothead changed my life?

1)It's caused me to spend more money more often

2)It's taught me to appreciate more booze more often

3)It's given me the opportunity to see more women showing more skin more often

4)It's made my family and friends think more crazy thoughts about me more often

Has it all been worth it?

HELL YES!
