Pitchers and Catchers in 23 days?

Maybe the Red Sox oughta get a catcher, then...

Prince Fielder signs 2-year, $18.0 million contract with Brewers.
Hmmm...maybe NOW the national media can stop coming up with trades that the Brewers are "on the verge of making" for Fielder?

Whats wrong George Kottaras?!

Wonder what the Red Sox do with Tek? They could really really screw him over . . . I mean, if they offered something around league minimum he would have to take it or sit the season out. No team is giving up a first round pick for a catcher in his mid 30's. I bet they give him a two year deal worth about 8 million total and then trade for Salty. Texas will fold - they will take either Buccholtz or Bowden for him. Not both. No way.

Tek will end up with the Sox in a smaller role than in the past. No team wants to lose a top draft pick for a catcher of Tek advanced age. So the Sox will ride out the off season and Tek will sign just before spring training probably for 1 year and an option.

There is a team that needs a new spring training facility!!!.....it's horrible!!!.....and really is not close to any other teams....Jupitor i think is the closest!!...The should of tried to get Vero Beach when the Dodgers moved out.

on Veritek....i hear there is a standing offer on the table for 2mil....not sure if it's a 1 year deal....which is all i'd give him..actually i'd give him one year with a option...to see if he bounces back as a hitter a little!!

Even I, the Jason Varitek "Man Love" guy, will admit that he will go down as the biggest donkey almost ever in the history of MLB contract decisions for turning down an offer (arbitration) that is, reportedly, more than twice as much as the Red Sox are now offering. Add that bone head decision to the bone head decision to make Scott "Bone Head" Boras your agent and getting divorced with three kids at the time you are signing for roughly .50 cents on the dollar (Jason loses atleast 30% of that to his ex - wife) and Tek - you are a bone head. A Hall of Fame Bone Head. But a Bone Head nonetheless.

Drunk Pirate's Early AL East Predictions:

Assuming Manny or Adam Dunn or whoever do not sign somewhere in the AL East . . .

1. Boston Red Sox (not a homer decision . . . that pitching staff and bullpen are nasty like your momma says. and their defense is top notch . . . their bats are also still some of the best 9 in baseball.). Look at all the great guys the Red Sox developed: Jon Lester, Jon Papelbon, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkillis (BEST first baseman in American League - sorry Texiera and Morneau - you guys don't got the defense or the ability to play gold glove caliber third if need be), Jed Lowrie, Jacoby Elisbury (name a better leadoff not on TB).

2. TB (losing to the Red Sox by less than 3 games). Its really all down to their bullpen. They have a great pitching staff: with a full year of David Price. They have great bats with power and speed. Pat Burrel was a great signing. Upton and Longoria and Navarro will only get better. But their bullpen is a train wreck. You can't win, history proves, without a closer. This weakness will lose the Rays many games in the 8th and 9th inings.

3. NYY: Most overrated signings ever. Look at their defense. Look at their bull pen beyond Mariano  Their bats (Damon as your lead off! And their 7th, 8th, and 9th hitters  ). Their 4th and 5th starters blow. Youk is a far better first baseman than Tex - and Youk is making 1/4th his salary next season. Jeter is the man but Jeter don't hit and field anymore like he used to. OVER rated.

4. Baltimore: Up and coming. Matt Wieters is the next Mauer. They have a bunch of youth and will be a contender similar to the Rays in 2011. All they need is 5 pitchers. :D

5. Toronto: Done. Love Halladay. Love Alex Rios. But done. They are done. They have nothing. They need to build for the future. Stacking the minors sure helped Boston and TB. It will help Baltimore in a year or two. Toronto and NYY need to learn this . . .

Hey Jack....sounds like someone needs a new shirt. Whats the matter John, that Romo Homo shirt get worn out?
In all seriousness, I agree, Boras spent so much time making money with Texiera, that he didn't concentrate on his other clients like Manny and Tek. They both are going to get screwed in their next contracts.

ESPN is reporting the Yankees and Andy Pettitte are close to a 1 year deal. If so, the Yankees have CC/Burnett/CM Wang/Pettitte/Joba as their rotation and Hughes and Aceves and I guess Kennedy waiting in the wings.

Have to ask since the vast majority of those who post in this thread are not Yankees fans: Given the Yankees situation, where would you put Joba? The starting rotation or the bullpen?
