Offensive Winning Percentage: a player's offensive winning percentage is the percentage of games a team would with 9 of that player in its lineup . . . (given average pitching and defense).

How fun is that!?

The great Ken Griffey jr is 134th on the list and falling fast. Brian Giles is 119th - - - just to give a comparison. Wow.

OPS + (adjusted). OPS + is OPS adjusted for the park and the league in which the player played.

Ken Griffey jr. is 91st on this list and, again, falling fast. He is tied with Will Clark . . .

Just giving some fun facts for the day . . . (Griffey is a Brian Giles and Will Clark level player . . . not bad at all . . . 8) )

OH - - - Griffey's At Bat per Homerun . . . now down to 15.3 (19th all time). Juan Gone's is 15.1. Griffey's will continue to fall down well into the 20' s if not 30's if his trend continues. But he sure does got alot of them dingers . . .boy howdy.
OK, now do those same stats on Griffey through the 2000 season. It can be argued that if a player reaches a HOF level for a sustained period of 10 years, you can never take it away from him. Check that period of time. Was he HOF level then?

How many times do I have to say it? That is the point! Of course Griffey was 2000 and prior. And, I realize that every player falls off towards the end of his career. But Griffey didn't . . . he fell off before even half his career was over AND FOR THE THOUSANDTH TIME I feel that he was more of a HOF with his overall 2000 and prior stats then now . . . with his bogus 600 HRs. He killed his entire career to get there . . . he didn't win games . . . he didn't do anything productive except . . . wait for it . . . plod along to 600.

The two above stats prove that. Griffey with 450 Homeruns and all his other stats in tact would've got my vote. Griffey with his career offensive (except HRs) and defensive stats now mediocre at best . . . Not So Much. He is a Will Clark and Brian Giles level player in terms of overall value.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Okay, this is BORING. We don't have a "beating a dead horse" smiley, so this one will have to do.

I hope it's not just wishful thinking, But Papi may be coming around. In the three games against the Rangers, Ortiz hit a team-high .364, going 4 for 11 with a home run and a pair of RBI. Among those American Leaguers who served as designated hitters throughout the entire weekend, the four hits was also tops. Ortiz has now hit safely in six straight games, going 7 for 25 (.280). *crosses fingers*

Lugo has become a joke at SS. He has no range. He cost Boston 5 runs Friday night on 2 plays most SS at least knock down. The fact that Green has started 7 out of 10 games shows Tito has little confidence in Lugo. If Lowrie weren't progressing so quickly (2-3 weeks?) Jack Wilson or Vizquel would be playing SS now.

Dice-K continues to be a mystery. Sunday he walked 0 while throwing a high percentage of strikes, But lots of those strikes had no movement and were knocked around the ballpark. Trust me when I say that he has pitched in his LAST WBC tournament. His preparation and conditioning was thrown off and he can't correct mistakes in his mechanics. The problem is they already tried to hit "reset" on his season once. They'll have more of a chance to pass on a start or two once Smoltz is ready to go.

BTW, don't be so down on the current state of the Sox. 1/3rd into the season and they are 1/2 game behind a team that spent a half a billion $$$ in contracts last winter. 4/5 of the rotation has pitched well the past month. The bullpen is still the best in baseball. They'll hit. Cheer up little buckaroo! 8)

Not going to lie; that is a little wierd. Not down on the Sox, either . . . but no team gets far in October with a guy like Lugo in the middle . . . no power from the DH . . . and 2.5 decent starters. Hopefully the depth we got in the minors and steps up this year.

Well, Scott Boras is the kid's agent. Boras has been quoted that he expects a record signing bonus & contract. Draft picks must be signed by August 15, or they go back in the pool for next year. Nationals failed to sign last year's top pick, so they are under some pressure. Boras is talking with teams in Japan as a backup in case there is no contract this year. I'd say 80% chance they sign him.

SOX SWEEP YANKS!!!

Sox won 3 different ways this series: a blowout, a hang on to the lead, and a come from behind. They ripped their throats out last night and beat their ace with a #5 starter. :D :D :D

Was at the Game Tuesday and watched every pitch of Wed and Thur... I'm in Yankee country so I'm really enjoying this!

MLB is having a home run challenge today for prostate cancer research.... For every home run hit, $14,000 will be donated to fund this research. So far 20 home runs have been hit today for a total $280,000 so far.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

What do you think the sox are gonna do today????? Six man rotation????? What will dice say when they ask him to go work stuff out???? He has a line in his contract that says, he can not be sent down to the minors with out his blessing. Are they gonna trade for a SS??? I sound like the sox are 10 games back not 2 games up, but does anyone really think the yanks will stink for very much longer?

We have a 20 team league with 60 man rosters (minors included). Real salaries, and a salary cap. Tough stuff.

I feel like a proud papa today. One of my players when I coached PONY league and a kid that I stayed in touch with throughout HS. He played for Valhalla HS and I coached at Steele Canyon HS (bitter rivals about 5 miles apart). Today Sean O'Sullivan will make his MLB Debut at AT&T Park in SF pitching for the Los Angeles California Angels of Anaheim. Way to Sean...I am very proud of you.

First of all, the Yankees don't stink. In between the last two series with Boston, NY went 21-10. For some reason Boston has their number so far this season. The reason is PITCHING. Any game that goes to the NY bullpen with the game on the line is up for grabs.

The Sox don't have to do anything until Friday; that's when Smoltz's 30 day rehab assignment is up. I predict they send Bard down, send Dice-k to the pen, and put Smoltz in the rotation. There are no greater creatures of habit than starting pitchers, and I don't want to see Lester and Beckett lose their edge to accomodate Smoltz in a 6 man rotation. Smoltz gets 3 starts to strut his stuff. If he's good then Penny is gone in a trade for top level prospects. If he's bad they send him to the pen and let him decide if he wants to hang around. They pay him $35,000 for every day he is on the 25 man roster. If he truly sucks they cut him loose.

At SS they'll wait until Lowrie comes back around the first week of July, giving them about 3 weeks to decide if he can handle the position the rest of the year. Lugo gets cut regardless. If they do need SS help at the trade deadline then Penny is probably part of a package, OR they trade some of the players they got for Penny if he's traded earlier. Teams that need pitching for a run at the playoffs won't be looking to trade their starting SS. The SS will come from a team out of contention, and they'lll want prospects. *cough*Jack Wilson*cough*

Turn off WEEI and the perpetual hand-wringing that goes on there.

Breathe in. Breathe out. GO SOX!
