Toronto is starting to listen to offers for Roy Halladay. Expect the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Phillies and Cubs to be major players.

This may be the trade that pries Clay Buchholtz away from the Red Sox, along with Bowden, Delcarmen and a top minor league position player. Imagine Beckett, Halladay and Lester as your first 3 starters in a playoff series... :D 8)

It would be great to have that big blue jay in the sox rotation but WHY IN THE WORLD would you want to give up all that young tallent to get him????? No question he is one of the top 5 pitchers in baseball, but what is Josh beckett? is he nothing any more???? I know Rory is a big time pitcher but please remember that you are talking about a baseball team that is picked to win the world series with the team they have now, why would you want to throw the future away for someone who is gonna try to break the bank in 2010. And another thing, Beckett is also up for a new contract in 2010 do you want to go into negotiations with both of them??? The reason the redsox won in 04 and 07 is cuz they had people like Pety, Youk, Delcarmen, paps and Lester, they are all home grown talent. Now the reason that the sox were not in the series in 08 was cuz Beckett was hurt. Would you rather have another big game regular season pitcher or do you want the best post season pitcer in baseball today? Again I would love to have him on my team, but I hope theo holds on to the future. The sox have the best of both worlds, they can win Now and in the Future. Can many other teams say that today?

I wouldn't trade Bucholtz straight up for Halliday, let alone adding in the others also... sorry, but that's way too much talent heading out of Boston for 10 wins a year( if Halliday is a 20 game winner vs Smoltz/DiceK/Penny, or whoever, who would average 10 wins).
Bucholtz is the future...and we're gonna need him when Dice K, Penny, Smoltz and/or Beckett are gone.....just my opinion

Keep an eye out for the White Sock in the sweepstakes, Kenny Williams is fearless when it comes to making deals like this.

Funny reading the Sox fans debating whether or not to go after Doc Halladay. It reminds me of the debate whether or not the Yankees should have traded Melky Cabrera and Phil Hughes for Johan Santana a couple of years ago. I would think that the Jays would have a higher asking price for the Yankees or Sox considering they're in the division. I don't know Halladay's contract situation, but I'm guessing he would want an extension if he's traded, like Santana wanted.

I think he ends up with the Phillies, if he goes anywhere. But it sure would be nice to have a rotation of CC, Halladay, Burnett, Pettitte, and Joba/Wang.

I think the other Sox could probably make a play for him as well, but knowing their situation was supposed to be a "rebuilding" situation anyway I think they're currently happy with the results they're getting and won't try to improve (but I could be wrong).... I wonder if Roy Halladay would waive his "no-trade" clause to play for them?

The difference is Halladay is a PROVEN big league pitcher. Since 2002 he has a .707 winning % and a 3.16 ERA pitching in the AL East! Buchholtz has yet to show he can pitch consistently in the majors. Adding 10 wins a year to ANY spot in the rotation is HUGE.

I think Halladay would only agree to a trade to a genuine contender. The Pale Hose may only be 2 games out in their division, but they are only 3 games above .500. I think he might also want a major restructuring/extension of his contract, so he'll probably wind up with a team with deep pockets.
