I can't believe they came from 12 games under .500 to this point. Unbelievable.
:D I'm sure pretty proud of 'em. Jim Tracy has done a great job with this team. Rockies have never won 91 games before. :D

I just took a look at my preseason predictions, not too bad in the AL. If Minnesota wins Tuesday I nailed all 4 AL playoffs teams - just had Bos and NY flipped flopped. Joe Mauer is a strong MVP candidate, Lester won't win the CY Young but he may get some lower votes, TB was certainly the most disappointing team in the AL. My AL ROY and surprise team were way off.

In the NL, I swung and missed at almost all picks except LAD in the west and Tim Lincecum for the Cy young, he is not a lock to win it buy he should be at least in the top 2 or 3.

My picks for postseason awards:

NL MVP: Albert Pujols. Prince Fielder would've been in the running if not for the Milwaukee pitching staff taking them out of playoff contention.

NL Cy Young: Chris Carpenter. Close race over several other guys. The one guy who isn't getting talked about would be my #2-Javier Vazquez. I'd take him over Wainwright, Lincecum, Cain.

NL Rookie Of Year: Tommy Hanson. This is the toughest of ALL the awards. I'd vote Hanson, Coughlan, Happ, McGehee, Rasmus, Fowler.

NL Manager Of Year: Jim Tracy. There is precedent for a midseason replacement winning the award. He had the best win % in baseball after he took over.

AL MVP: Mark Teixeira. I was all about giving it to Joe Mauer, but in the end, big Tex gets my vote. Led league in HRs and RBI. Would like to see a higher BA, but his outstanding defense swings this for me.

AL Cy Young: Zach Grienke. The only reason there could be any doubt was because the Royals stunk. But he should run away with this.

AL Rookie Of Year: I take Andrew Bailey. There is talk about Rick Porcello, Jeff Niemann and Ricky Romero. Romero's stats have actually been pretty BAD, Porcello and Niemann pretty average. I'd consider Elvis Andrus or Gordan Beckham, but look at Bailey. As a rookie closer, he had a 0.88 WHIP, 1.84 ERA, more than a K per inning, and saved 26 games.

AL Manager of Year: Ron Gardenhire...because he never let them give up.

He is tied for the lead in HR's with a man who didn't play for , what, the last month or so!!

But that other guy also hit about .230
Very Dave Kingman-esque

P,

First of all Joe Mauer is 10 times more valuable and deserving then Tex. Not even close.

However . . .

IF you think Tex is the AL MVP lets use that as a model to illustrate just how great Albert Pujols 2009 season was (I think Pujols just had the best overall season of any position player in the last 30 + years)

Assists:

Pujols: 185 - MLB RECORD
Tex: 47

BA:

Pujols: .327
Tex:.292

K's:

Pujols: 64
Tex: 114

HRs/ RBI

Pujols: 47/ 135
Tex: 39/ 122 (and TEX was on a far more offensive driven team AND had the easiest ball park to hit homeruns in . . .)

Hits:

Pujols: 186
Tex: 178

Runs:

Pujols: 124
Tex: 103

I mean . . . for two MVP candidates at the same position how f'n great was Pujol's 2009 campaign even based against his best peers . . .? A - F'N - MAZING!

The "worst to first" season, clinching the division in Cleveland after Selig floated the idea of contracting the league and eliminating the Twins, was the best season for the franchise. (and on that day, with the last out, I stood in the Jake, turned toward MKE, flipped Selig the bird, saying "Contract THIS". That season was equal to the '91 season, the best World Series in the last 40 years.

This season tho, has its own magic, and I am proud to have been a Twins fan thru the "Minnesota Lumber Co." years, thru the slow years after the '91 series. Today, my Twins cap and Twins Hawaiian shirt are worn with a little more pride, and the world is a little better place. :)

I had softball all day so I missed the Papplebon meltdown ... thankfully!

If any team can beat NY it is the Angels but sadly I don't think anyone is beating NY this year so the Red Sox getting the booted saves me from seeing them getting destroyed by the Yankees in the ALCS.

I had tickets for game 4 tomorrow so at least I get my $150 back and will also save the money I would have spent at the park.

I still have the Patriots, no way they lost today too is there??? :-?

Glad it won't be Sox-Yankees in the ALCS, the baseball world doesn't revolve around those two teams. Now if the Angels can keep rolling, I'll be really happy. :D
