And for the same reason, I don't think an obsure song works... he'll lost too much of the audience....

I know some of you are asking to select songs he hasn't done before, but when he opened with Lage Nom Ai back in 99 or 00 -- can't remember the year -- it was just awesome!!! Perfect song to start the party and was definitely the best opening I've seen...DO IT AGAIN!!

Actually I am the one that was pointing out to do something different. It's that genius voclano boy that brought up the same old drudging songs again.

I actually look forward to Volcano's posts...sometimes scratching my head and others laughing my a$$ off. I don't mean this in a bad way, I just enjoy Volcano's "unique" posts.

The opening number for a Buffett show should have some punch and pace to get the crowd rockin'
That's why Great Heart was such a popular pick.

A song that really picks me up like that is The Pascagoula Run
It's got a great opening chorus ("It's time to see the world!..."), room for instrumental buildups and solos, crowd participation ("What do the ladies say?")
...and it just plain rocks!

Follow that without pause with the breezy SOASOAS, and I'll bet you've got a damn happy audience right off! :pirate:

How about Cheeseburger?

That way we all can stay in the parking lot for one more drink.
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

I liked it when Jimmy and the band opened with One Particular Harbour. I'm sure it was the year that Jimmy and Fingers played out on the lawn and the band started OPH and Jimmy and Fingers joined them on stage.

OPH is a great starter.

This year it might be nice for us to get a COLLECTION of solo acoustic OPENER songs like 12-Volt Man, That's What Living is To Me, Captain and the Kid, Come Monday, Railroad Lady, Tin Cup Chalice, etc....some good ballads.

I'd really like to see that in a special "Unplugged"-style program with just the Beach Band playing in the round for a studio audience.

I think an intimate setting would encourage him to sing these ballads again.
The bigger the venue, the more he just yells all his lyrics, and dodges beach balls :-?

At Vegas this year they showed a video of Jimmy singing African Friend. I think it said it was '92 or '93, but it was beautiful.

I always enjoy those moments and the opening song would be a good spot for those ballads too.
