Tickets

Post by kpavlinec »

I'm not the oldest nor the newest Parrothead but I'm learning as the years pass. I attended 3 NJ/PA 2008 shows and everytime I'm paying top dollar through an agency. I was wondering, what is the best way for a true Parrothead, like myself, to get a jump on the general public for tickets in 2009? All details would be appreciated. Maybe Jimmy should do seat licensing like the Jets and Giants :)

Welcome to BN, kpavlinec.

There is generally no advanced sales, unless there is the occasional password to a certain venue. Or if you belong to a PH Club. Otherwise we're all in the same boat. :)

Last year, it seems like some of the best plans were to wait until it got much closer to the show date. Lots of good tickets were coming up within a week or so of shows.

Yep, I need to do that this year... Worst come to Worst I'll be able to score at least ONE ticket at the tailgate before the concert....

However because it's Live Nation and NOT Ticketmaster doing the selling it might be a different experience this year. Last year I believe it was Live Nation that released all their "unsold" tickets to ticketmaster before the concert.

Back in the old days it was easy enough to camp out for tickets. Then came the lottery, which was still easily beatable. You just get a group of friends together and go to the least likely store to have a crowd. Then just space it out so that every third or fourth person getting a ticket is in your group. With the lack of physical locations to get tickets anymore we have resorted to trying to get them online. Just get a bunch of people together, set up a conference call, and everybody be ready to go at 10am when they go on sale. Good luck!

Keep checking with the ticket services since there is a chance that there will be more tickets released after all of the band members and other people related to the venue finish with their ticket allotments.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Welcome!!!

I have phriends that we all try to get a set number of tickets. We used to have 1 in-line, 1 on da phone and some on-line. We have been shut-out in years past. As some have said, they do release tickets weeks before a show. I try that if I am shut-out. Good luck. Whatever You do, Don't use scalpers. I feel that they make the problem worse.

We may be able to do that again for the shows sold by Live Nation. They are going to be sold out of Blockbuster stores.

The way to get tickets before everyone else or to get really good seats is to be related to someone in the band or management team or the promoter or the venue or a tour sponsor. Otherwise it's a crap shoot and that means sometimes you win big and sometimes you don't.

i bought mine for Houston last year online the day they went on sale.

about 2 weeks before the show, the scalpers here in town were having so much trouble moving them, they were selling lawn seats for 1/2 face value. wish i would have waited.

i can't see there being a fast, first day sell out with the economy how it is this year.

i'll be on the lawn, but if i wanted reserved seats, i would try online the morning they go on sale.

Welcome to the group!!

Going to an agency is a way to pay too much.

Last few times I saw JB I went with a good ticket in hand. There were people in the lot selling better seats than mine for less than cost. This is in So Calif; your location may be different.

Last year in Atlanta I ended up with two extra tickets and was trying to sell them for face value. There was a glut of tickets and I sold them for less than I bought them for.

A week before the concert LiveNation released some tickets third or fourth row, center stage but I couldn't get them because I already had two extra.

With the economy in the tank this year, reserved seat tickets might not be as hard to get.

I wouldn't pay agency prices, though. Try Ticketmaster or LiveNation.

We had a couple of our friends have their flight delayed this past year for the Labor day show, and literally ended up giving away their tickets for free...if you go to the concert there will be tickets in the lot--you just have to have the motivation to go find them

I forgot to mention the ticket section on here as well. I have had good luck with that over the years, buying and selling. I would rather a fellow BN'er end up with my extras at face value that some scalper getting them for more on ebay. Although, as others have mentioned, those days could be behind us now.
