Re: BN Critters - January 14th, 2009
By request, the complete "Ode to the Boobies" ........
The Outlook wasn't brilliant for the Critterville eleven that day:
The score stood 19-17, with but 8 seconds more to play.
After Wormer dropped the big one, and Smart missed by just that much,
A sickly silence fell upon the players, fans and such.
But Unitatas let fly a deep pass, to the wonderment of all,
And a yellow flag did flutter, where Feldon had missed the ball;
And when the dust had lifted, and the men saw what had occurred,
The Boobies were in field goal range and a busty roar was heard.
Then from 10,000 throats and more there rose a lusty scream;
It rumbled o'er the beaches, it rose up like a dream;
It rocked upon the mountains, and sinking hearts were healed,
For Nipples, mighty Nipples, was jogging on the field.
There was ease in Nipple's manner as he stepped into the huddle;
There was pride in Nipple's bearing and a smile that was so subtle.
And when, responding to the cheers, he had not a word to say,
No stranger in the crowd could doubt that Nipples would save the day.
Twenty thousand eyes were on him as he held his finger to the winds;
Ten thousand tongues applauded when he pointed to his friends.
There was no doubt across the land, that this man was "The Nip",
And defiance gleamed in Nipples' eye, and a sneer curled Nipples' lip.
And now the pigskin-covered orb came hurtling through the air,
And Nipples stood a-watching it with a haughty pompous glare.
From 35 yards away where Nipples had toed the turf,
It sailed on through the uprights, and then onwards towards the surf.
From the bleachers, packed with people, there rose a mighty roar,
The Boobies surged into the lead! 20-19 was now the score!
"Hurray! Hurrah! Let's party now!" shouted the minstrel and his band.
But wait! 4 seconds still remained! They failed to understand!
The history books will forever tell, of that fateful final play.
Of the band that was out on the field, as the seconds ticked away.
It was a blur, an ugly mess, it was truly awful, dude!
The minstrel and his troubadours, and the chaos that ensued.
It's over now. It's said and done. There's nothing we can do.
But drink more rum, perhaps a brew. Not one but quite a few.
'Tis now been over 70 years since the Boobies won it all.
"Just you wait, until next year!", must once again remain our call.
Oh, somewhere on this favored isle, the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children grin;
But there is no joy in Critterville - the Boobies have lost again.
