Not sure if they will honor it. Better check first.SuperTrooper wrote:Oh sh!t! I've still got 2 $20 gift cards to spend!
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

If liquidation begins tomorrow, you'll probably want to get in there today if you want a chance of being able to use them.SuperTrooper wrote:Oh sh!t! I've still got 2 $20 gift cards to spend!

Sounds like a great place to open a bar. No matter how bad the economy, people still go to bars. Restaurant business may not be so good, as people tend not to eat out as much in tough times, but they continue to drink.pbans wrote:wow....that's going to leave another big box store empty in my city.....we lost a giant Macy's a few months ago.....and Mervyn's just last month.

Maybe CC or JB will turn the buildings into bars. ( I want the usual 30% of finders fees and a free tab for life, and front row tickets with backstage passes, if JB turns them into bars. It was my idea first!

This is Riverdale, Utah......there is no such thing as a bar.....nor would there be, especially not one that big! Our city council is 100% non-drinking, predominant religion conservatives!
They'd rather go broke than invite the likes of that into the hallowed city.

CNN/Money article
"In a filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Circuit City - the No. 2 electronics retailer after Best Buy (BBY, Fortune 500) - said it had reached an agreement with four companies to start the liquidation process.
The company said the sale would begin Saturday and run until March 31, pending court approval.
The retailer's Web site and call center will cease to operate after Jan. 18.
Circuit City also operates about 765 retail stores and dealer outlets in Canada. The company said its Canadian operations, which employ 3,000 workers, will continue to operate.
The company said it will redeem its gift cards through the liquidation sale, but the cards will have no value once the stores are closed."

already had most of the ones here close in the first wave. not worth the drive to look for stuff already picked over once or twice (first wave of closings, and then the Christmas season)

Re: Sail On Circuit City
Just a note of caution to those thinking about checking them out for clearance deals- When they had the last round of closings, my local store was one of them. I went there, hoping to find a deal on a big flat screen tv I had been heavily shopping for. After looking at the prices, things did not seem right. The salesman on duty, knowing he was about out of a job anyway, answered my questions about the products, then told me to go buy it at a different store. The liquidation company's strategy was to take over the inventory, mark everything up- in my case they marked up the tv I wanted about $300, and then hang the xx% off signs all over everything. So if you didn't look around, and just assumed pricing was good because it was liquidation, you would pay more then normal retail for everything. And people were buying it.
I will miss Circuit City though. I always preferred them for my electronics, and did end up with a deal on my TV from a different Circuit City store. I feel sorry for those employees for sure.

Wait and see what happens when they find out how money is involved. That is IF they were to do a study on it. Some of those council members, might suddenly remember they are there to represent the people. Not themselves or their religion. The first bar could make a killing for the community in revenue and jobs.

Spider Johnson wrote:What happened to Hoagie's, Teazers, the City Club, The Lamplight Lounge and Brewski's? I know that last year there were bars/clubs in Riverdale. Sure, some of them are dives but you can still get a drink there. I think you ought to go before the City Council and propose to convert the Circuit City in a giant club with dancers, etc. It would be a great way to kill off some of the Council members as they have a heart attack.pbans wrote:Spider Johnson wrote:Sounds like a great place to open a bar. Will Circuit City stores continue to accept Circuit City gift cards?
Yes, customers holding Circuit City gift cards may redeem them at full value at our stores during the liquidation sales. Once the stores are closed and the company is out of business, the gift cards will have no value.

While I feel for the employees I can't say I'll miss Circuit Shitty any especially with their bait and switch type tactics which are also practiced by other "big box" stores such as Best Buy.

Yeah but... once Circuit City is gone and the economy gets better, Best Buy will have no reason to try anymore unless someone else steps up and gives them some competition.Tiki Torches wrote:While I feel for the employees I can't say I'll miss Circuit Shitty any especially with their bait and switch type tactics which are also practiced by other "big box" stores such as Best Buy.

I doubt the disappearance of Circuit City will have any affect whatsoever on their less than ethical business practices.pema wrote:Yeah but... once Circuit City is gone and the economy gets better, Best Buy will have no reason to try anymore unless someone else steps up and gives them some competition.Tiki Torches wrote:While I feel for the employees I can't say I'll miss Circuit Shitty any especially with their bait and switch type tactics which are also practiced by other "big box" stores such as Best Buy.
