Problem with your peanut butter
But not Jimmy's conspiracy..

WASHINGTON – What began as an investigation of bulk peanut butter shipped to nursing homes and institutional cafeterias has broadened with the Kellogg Co. recalling 16 products and federal officials confirming salmonella contamination at a Georgia facility that ships peanut products to 85 food companies
Kellogg had asked stores earlier this week to pull some of its venerable Keebler crackers from shelves as a precaution. But in a statement late Friday the Battle Creek, Mich., company announced it was voluntarily recalling the crackers and other products in light of the problems in Georgia.

Is nothing "safe" any more???????

On most days I say: "Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been...."
Sometimes I can only say: "There is no dumbass vaccine......"
If something or someone gets you down, just remember: "In a hundred years it all won’t matter.........."

Re: Problem with your peanut butter
This is one food recall I'm not worried about.
We have a peanut allergy and a non-gluten eating person in the house, so industrial peanut butter in cookie and cracker products are not something we ever have at home.
I'm not quite sure how salmonella makes its way into peanut butter, however, I am learning how to make it from scratch. You know, from real peanuts.

Re: Problem with your peanut butter
They've been announcing it over and over and over on the local channels here....saying to not eat ANY peanut butter until they narrow down what companies the peanuts were sold to.....
Now all I want is a peanut butter sandwich, of course...
They're grown around here, and in SW Georgia......The contaminated ones came out of SW Georgia not far from here.....
I'm thinking if I already ate out that jar, it must be safe....???
But I'm not taking any chances...

Re: Problem with your peanut butter
Yeah this is not a good thing for this area of Georgia either, if people stop eating peanut butter.
We had the Peter Pan salmonella problem in Sylvester 10 miles up the road about a year ago.
Tifton has a big storage facility for peanuts that supplies about a third of the peanuts for Peanut M&Ms.
If you want to make your own peanut butter, PB2 is still safe: http://bellplantation.com/ with 85% less fat calores than full fat peanut butter.

Re: Problem with your peanut butter
You are covered so to say with Glunet Free... BUT problem is, salmonella can effect things that do not have peanut butter... ie: at the Country Club we have those who cannot eat peanuts, we have to let them know about chocolate that is made at the same company that makes peanut-butter..so yeah it looks like nothing is safe! All hail organic...(but even thatbuffettbride wrote:This is one food recall I'm not worried about.

Re: Problem with your peanut butter
I wonder if any of the affected peanut products might have come from China?
Seriously, food borne pathogens are, for whatever reason, are becoming more and more of a risk.
Could it possibly be terrorists at work, and the goverment is avoiding wide scale panic, by keeping such on a low key level?
Maybe we could offer the terrorists two samples of peanut butter. One safe and one known to be contaminated. Let them determine their own fate. ( That is if they eat peanut butter.)
A 50-50 chance of being right or wrong. Certainly more of a chance than the terrorists give their victims, and much more of a chance than the terrorists deserve.
Then again it is only peanut butter, isn't it...?
