Making Slide Show for Folks 45 Anniversary
Hi yall!
I've been scanning pictures all day to create a slide show for my parents anniversary. I want to have a song play while the pictures are flashing on the screen.
What program can I use?

Re: Making Slide Show for Folks 45 Anniversary
Windows movie maker lets you add music, videos, pictures, titles, effects, and use different transitions. I used it a couple years ago to make a
DVD. Takes some work and time, but so fun to do if you have the time.
There are other programs on my computer that let you add songs but not titles, or not movies, look at what you have available, play around with each of them then decide. Windows movie maker had the most.
Comcast photoshow (when I had comcast) or something like that was easy to use, but I don't remember if you could add songs.
When's their anniversary?

How sweet ... your parents and family are going to treasure this!
Yes, I do slide shows for my school district using Power Point and always add music to them!
Let me see if I can come up with some instructions and tips.
There are several little details that you have to do to make it work perfectly.
If nothing else I can walk you through it on the phone.

Re: Making Slide Show for Folks 45 Anniversary
Okay, let me try.
First of all, create your Power Point presentation. I usually start with Insert Photo Album, just to get all my pictures in the presentation. You can alter them later ... size, position, adding text, graphics, etc. To me this is easier than inserting them one by one.
Secondly, create your sound file. I like to have only one single music file, .wav files used to work the best in Power Point, but I think the newer versions of Power Point will allow other types of music files to work also. If I need more than one song for a longer presentation, I link them together using the software mentioned below.
If you have a music file that Power Point doesn't like, you can use this really cool free software, Goldwave, to convert it to a different file format. I have used this software for years, have it at home and at my job, never any problems with it. Also, this software will let you link several songs together into one file, fading in and out ... evening out the volume .... to make it sound absolutely perfect. Here's the link to the software:
http://www.goldwave.com/release.php
When you are done creating your presentation, go to the page where you want your music to start. Select Insert Sound, then From File. Go and find your music file and insert it. I always select for the sound to start automatically (more on tweeking this later).
This will insert a little sound icon ... select the sound icon and then go to custom animation to play with the file's settings to get it just like you want it. You will want to Hide the Sound Icon during the slide show. On the timing, select it to start from the beginning, and then tell it to play through however many slides you want it to.
The hardest part for me is getting the timing right, I usually switch some photos around so they come up at "appropriate" times in the music. You will have to add / delete seconds from the transition time of some of your slides to make the music end at the right time.
Be sure to save as a .pps so you won't have to open the file up on the big screen in front of a crowd.
Okay ... the tweeking of the start of the music. I usually have two identical "beginner slides." The very first slide is the title of the presentation or a cover page or picture that is up on the screen at the beginning of the event, while other stuff is going on, and this first slide is set to advance only on a mouse click.
The second slide is identical but is actually the start of the slide show, where each slide is set to advance automatically every two seconds or however you long you want it. The second slide is where I insert the sound file. So when you are ready to start the show, you just mouse click and everything "magically" starts.
Hope this makes some sense! Let me know if you have questions and I'll try to clarify.
Have fun!!!

May I suggest no nudes of you; well maybe as a baby, but then it would need to be sent to
me as all the other nude pics of you for carefull investigation by myself, Santa, R2, and Garry.
We will determine their proper display.

Re: Making Slide Show for Folks 45 Anniversary
I have done a few with Windows Movie Maker that turned out pretty good. The one thing I learned when I did the 10 year Anniversary video for my wife was that you want to make sure you try to "Blend" the ages in the photos. If you go from a photo of them at 25 to one of them at 70 they will feel older than if you go from a shot at 70 down to 25. I tried go from younger to older slowly, then once I got up to a more current shot I would jump back down to a shot at a much younger age.
I had a friend that recently created a video slide show using Animoto.com. It looks like they can do all the work for you and the price is not that bad. I would probably use them the next time I create a Vacation Video, but I think I will do the 25 Year Anniversary video myself. The last one was a lot of work, but it was an experience that I will never forget.
Good Luck

Great tips, PharmGirl!
I usually do an end-of-year PowerPoint for my seniors and always add music...and always end up forgetting exactly how I did it the year before so it takes some trial and error.
I also did one for my parents' anniversary party a couple years ago. I've used iMovie before, but find PowerPoint is easier for me.
Make sure you have the music on your computer and don't forget to 'package' the presentation before burning it to a CD; otherwise your music will not 'stay with' the slideshow.
Good luck!

Re: Making Slide Show for Folks 45 Anniversary
I actually just finished it using a movie maker program that came with my new HP printer (waiting for JumpUp to insert comment)....
all i had to do was put the pictures in the order i wanted, add captions and add the song.... right now i have strong enough to bend by tanya tucker - mom told me when it came out that the song reminded her of them.... i might switch to she and i by alabama when i get to austin next week and show this to sister...
you don't have a lot of options for backgrounds and transitions but it will work for now.
thanks for all the suggestions and advice!

Maybe photo story 3 for windows? It's free. There's also a windows movie maker that's free and you can do fade in and fade out type effects. That's what I used for the movie of Penny & E's wedding.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

Lori!!! PERFECT! A+++++
Powerpoint is so easy and you can change the songs to fit photos by working with the transition timing and custom animation.
Congrats to texas janice's parents! I know it will be special.
