We're still going to the beach in Punta Cana, DR, for a week at an AI resort from the 7-14th February. Got a great deal.

Nothing is affecting my vacation plans for this year.
And I'm taking several.

February-California & Hawaii

May-Memphis, TN

June/July/Aug-Alpine Valley & Chicago (whenever Jimmy will be there)

Aug.-Key West Phest (Erie, PA)

Sept.-Chicago (Navy ship reunion)

Aug. or Sept.-Nova Scotia (Get ready, Cate!)

Nov.-Key West, FL (M.O.T.M.)

Unknown Summer dates-(Since I'm a glutton for punishment), A couple of Cubs games

I'm taking less trips this year....but it's less about the economy than it is about me wanting to make a big purchase....but if I can make it to KW this year or TX next year, I'll be very happy....

I definitely won't travel much this year...
I'll be lobbying in D.C. for the first half of Spring Break (not costing me a dime)
The second half, I'll take the bus to Chicago to visit home (yay for megabus and $11 roundtrip!)
I also hope to make it home once during the summer.
Other than that, maybe a couple school-related trips down to the Twin Cities (which won't cost me a dime either)

But none of this will really cost me much money (if any). So I guess my main goal is to go to as many places as possible without spending money! Those will be my vacations.

Hi Jenny,

If the US economy continues to tank Australia might see a real influx of "ex-patriated Americans" heading your way!!!!! :D :pirate:

For important trips, I tend to book airfare through the airlines directly. I *love* using a travel agent to book trips to Mexico, though. Just has that personal touch and hasn't affected my bottom line when I've traveled.
Thanks for pointing that out!! It has been tough, and I know a lot of smaller "Mom and Pop" agencies that have closed largely because of the internet...... which directly affects our economy. I know it is exciting for people to do the planning themself, because they can, but when you book online, someone is still getting paid and the pricing is usually the same, or more than through a local agent who will be putting that money back into *our* economy.

Thanks for your love of agents!!

PS, I wont even get an easy pass for the thruway tolls because I am afraid that doing so will take someones job away! I wont use the self serve lines in a grocery store either. I figure every little thing helps!!

We paid for our group of houses in Key West, as well as the plane tickets and rental vans, a year ago and leave for the rock in 22 days. :pirate:

We're waiting to make our April reservations in anticipation of specials on weeklong rentals somewhere on the East Coast, but we're traveling and enjoying. We're headed back to the OBX in late September or early October also. I'm still going to go to Dragon*Con in early September. I'm still going to North Carolina in July. I'm not changing my plans just because money might be a little tighter. I only live once, and I could step in front of a bus tomorrow. I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead.

I was planning on surprising you, but it's more of an airfare thing than anything else. It's still possible, but a very looooooooooong shot.

Garry, sounds like you can make the Toronto show, too, on your way to the East Coast!

Cate, hope you have a great time in Punta Cana for Valentine's Day!

I'm sending my daughter to Texas to visit her husband for a week around Valentine's Day.

and we may do another week in Jamaica to visit our son....

wow, you're coming to visit us???? Let me know when so I can make sure the air mattress is ready for you

But in all seriousness, if you are in and around the Flint area, let us know--I'm sure between Dr. Corona and I (assuming our respective families don't mind and don't squander our piggy banks...) we can muster up a few bucks to buy you a drink....
well, ummmmmmm, yah, I guess I better come up with something witty to put in this spot since everyone is reading it.......
