I see that John Prine is coming to the Wilshire Theatre in April, not far from me. I have liked his music since I have been listening to Rad Marg on the Sirius Satellite. I am strongly considering going to this show. Has anyone here ever seen JP live in concert? What’s it like? A sit and listen or stand and dance concert? I would really like to see him but would like someone who has seen him before give me the rundown.

Depends on the venue but if it were a "sit and listen" type situation I certainly wouldn't let that keep you from seeing him. I suggest going while he's still actively touring. You definitely won't regret it.

I saw him at Carnegie Hall last year, definitely a "sit and listen" type show. He's a funny guy, told some great stories between the songs, thoroughly enjoyed it.

John Prine is perhaps the only artist (Jimmy B. included) that I would rearrange my vacation schedule to go see in concert. Definitely sit and listen and SING ALONG because 95% of his audience are devotees who know every single song. I've seen John Prine in concert perhaps 30 times over 30 years and have NEVER been disappointed.
His stage presence and story telling between songs are terrific. Pick up a few albums, including some "live" albums to get a feel for the show. I'll try to pull together my "must get" album list for you. I'm sure others here have a few recommendations.
Oh! And do a "search" here at BN for "Prine" .... there have been a lot of discussions about his music. He is the best songwriter out there in my opinion. The man can write a lyric that'll have you just going "wow".
Enjoy!

Go. You won't regret it. I've seen him many times and the shows have all been sit down shows. Who is opening for the show you are attending?
