Back in the early seventies you needed close to a 4.0 to make it into schools of dentistry, as well as a four year degree.
Other than completing the required full years of inorganic chem, organic chem, biology, and physics, any degree would do.
I went for a science degree........B.S. in psychology!
Still had room for electives, and why take one that wasn't fun?
Hard to maintain that grade point when you take calculus as your elective.
Really now, would'nt you rather have a psychologist that appreciates fine art
drilling on your teeth than a math nerd?
Math ALWAYS sucked.
Possibly hereditary.
Aviator son is home for the summer to take the required for his degree calculus course at community college.
The grade is NOT averaged in to the university GPA.
He'll need help and tutoring for this just to pass,
but guess who won't be able to help him!

Oh, definitely. My own dentist has an artistic side, too, plus he used to have his pilot's licence, which is irrelevant, of course. As long as there's someone who can follow the chemical formulae and recipes accurately, and someone else to do the books, what use does a dentist have for math?Really now, would'nt you rather have a psychologist that appreciates fine art
drilling on your teeth than a math nerd?
One daughter, who was terrible at math all through school--despite being certified brilliant in many things--finally discovered statistics in university and, with some initial coaching from her dad (a demographer), now makes her living doing number-crunching for Tourism Whistler. However, she is still mathematically challenged, it seems. She believed that her household effects we're going to move for her, which once occupied a storage locker 5 ft x 5 ft x 5 ft, would therefore be 5 cubic feet!
Pilots seem to need math. Perhaps not calculus. I've never found a lot of use of calculus.

Pilots needed math to work out weight & balance, fuel burn, wind triangles etc.
It's all done electronicaly now, so less mistakes.
Remember that airliner that safely dead sticked it in on a drag strip in Canada after running out of fuel?
That was a litres vs gallons mistake!
There's a brand new Brazilian Embrair Phenom 100 business jet that is so technologicaly advanced there is almost nothing for the pilot to do on the checklist...it's all done by the computers, giving the pilots a chance to focus on other things instead.
They say all you need now with all the computers on board is one human pilot and one chimpanzee.
The human pilot is to monitor all of the computers, and the monkey is there to slap the hand of the human if he tries to over-ride anything the computer does.

Nothing personal........cause ya know I think you're awesome, but in general I hate going to the Dentist.Never had any traumatic issue.....just hate someone messing with my teeth.
It is a bit too far to go to Detroit for a dental visit and I don't think OHIP would pay either

Set up a chair at a tailgate.
If I could be full of Tequila I may enjoy the experience a bit more.

Somehow I don't think my 4 leggers will be worth a damn at supporting the lifestyle I have become accustom to.Snowparrot wrote:I thought we were going to retire and let our kids support us, for a change![]()

There's something so deeply distressing about that sentence (taken out of context, of course)...must be why the thread died a little!OMiTT wrote:Most two leggers can't even do it anymore

As a "Lawn Creature", about what time have you guys in the past wandered in to stake out your turf.
