I Hate Mr. Coffee.....

OK, this has been building a while and, well, today it's "coming out"........ [smilie=givingittheeye.gif]

You see I have this Mr. Coffee coffee maker at home, had it for a while now. I simply cannot function without a freshly brewed cup of coffee first thing every day when I wake up. I grind my own beans, savor the aroma, the whole works......

I bought a Mr. Coffee a while back, because it was reasonably priced and you would assume that anything named Mr. Coffee should pretty much have this whole coffee making process down, right????? Wrong!!!!!!!!! [smilie=grrrrrr.gif]

First, the gizmo that is advertised to stop the drip when the pot is removed........never got the memo. Then, the pot itself has such a narrow lip to pour that unless you fill your cup at a rate of one cup/15 minutes more freshly brewed coffee ends up on the kitchen counter than in the cup....... [smilie=hello.gif]

To make this little irritation worse for me, the office I work in last Friday got a new coffee maker........do I need to tell you what kind it is???? [smilie=whistle.gif] The exact same model....... [smilie=cwl.gif]

So, my fellow BNers, before a put 6 shots in my coffee maker (I'm talking bullets here, not alcohol), can you suggest a favored home coffee maker that I should consider purchasing?????

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :pirate:

How much do you want to spend??

Seriously.....Some folks swear by Bunn.(Not good in the humid South as the water reservoir is always full and warm, and some folks have had bug problems because of it..)

Braun is excellent....

Cuisinart makes a great one for the home......

I have a Cuisinart that I really like, it even has a water filter thingy in it which helps a lot here because living in the country as I do my well water is loaded with minerals etc. I think it was about $70 on sale but for something that I use every single day it seemed worth it. Sorry the image is SOOOOO BIIIIGGG.

Given how a lot of people here spend their Saturday nights I figured bigger was better. :D

Seriously, I'm too much of a loser to figure out how to make them smaller.

We use a Cuisinart at work that does personal cups (no pot) and contains a removable filter/storage hold for cleaning....

But we go through a LOT of coffee, we're talking 4 or 5 remakes a day (and it's only an 11 person office :o )

It costs about 100 dollars at Kohls... I'll see if I can find a picture of it....

I have a Hamilton Brew Station. No pot to pour from or drip! Travel mugs fit as well. They have several different models to choose from even a baby one for 6 cups (which for me equates to 2 regular coffee cups and 1 travel mug fill up). But given the amount of coffee I drink - my next one will be the larger size one

If you only make one pot per day, or so, you cannot beat the taste and quality of coffee made in a Chemex. It's a little labor-intensive, but the coffee is worth the work.

Also there is the French Press.

This is the way to go. We have the 12 cup one and make 2 half pots daily. One decaf for hubby......one reg for me. WE LOVE IT.
We are on our 2nd one. Not that they don't last, just gets lots of use.
Got it on sale for about $40 and that's Canadian.

If you do not buy a Bunn you will never get a great cup of coffee @ home. Their are a lot of coffee makers that make good coffee but a Bunn makes great coffee.
The right kind of filter makes a big difference, the permanent filters are conveniet but a paper filter is till the best for allowing the water to flow accross the coffee for the perfect brew.
I can use any type of coffee and people always want to know what kind of coffee I am using because it is so good and I tell them it is the coffee maker not the coffee. Don't get me wrong their is great coffee out there, but if it is not brewed correctly it will still be good coffee.
I have finally convinced 6-7 friends and family to buy Bunns and they always thank me.

Farberware Percolator! I've had several coffee makers over the years, and by far the best is still the old-fashioned percolator. IMHO [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

our Mr Coffee served us well however it was old and well used so we recently purchased a DeLonghi. We like the fact the door swings out to insert coffee and water eliminating the need to move it out from under the cabinets to use.

We must have the same Mr. C. I, too, grind my own beans and wait for the perfect cup! BUT, in addition to the problems you've mentioned, mine takes almost a half-hour to brew 10 cups! I NEED IT FAST!!!! [smilie=asa.gif]

I bought one model a few years back that was advertised as "NO DRIP" when pouring coffee - it said so right on the box. Paid a fair amount for it, too.

Honestly, it was the worst coffee maker for pouring coffee all over the counter because the spout was so tiny.

Now I have a cheapo generic which works great, makes decent coffee and DOESN'T DRIP!

Thanks so much for the ideas everybody! :pirate:

Must admit though that the "Chemex" thing sure reminds me of something I used back in college during the 70s.......and it wasn't for coffee! :o

I went through 3 or 4 Mr. Coffee and Black & Decker coffee makers in two years. They just stopped working. Then I "splurged" (think I paid like $60) on a stainless steel Cuisinart, and it's been going strong for about 3 years now. It does randomly shut off every so often, I think it may have something to do with our VERY hard water.
