Hi pholks,

Well, I'm planning to head down for MOTM, as I usually do, and I'm wincing at the prices for lodging, as I usually do. :)

I usually stay in Old Town, walking distance from everything. I'd *prefer* to do that again. But I can save beaucoup bux (like almost half the cost) by staying out on N. Roosevelt and driving/cabbing into town. This year, that amount of savings is tempting.

My question is, for anyone who's done this: How badly *does* it s*ck? (Is there such a thing as vacation s*ckage in Key West anyway? :) ) Should I just plan on taking another 1-2 months to pay off the credit cards and go for Old Town, or can I get a decent experience commuting in from one of those nice-looking places on the Gulf on Roosevelt?

Thanks in advance for your opinions,

Loren

I have been tasked with the planning of a getaway for a handful of MILF’s and a few singlets. One of our dear friends will be deployed this Saturday and upon her return (early April 2010) we wanted to do a girls week in the Key’s. BUT here is the kicker… we would like to charter a small vessel for that week. One that preferably has a chef (we do not want to cook either) and one that knows the best bars, massage therapists, and docks on the islands.

We are not your normal ladies, not to worry…… no petty crap, just living the good life for a few day’s enjoying each other’s company and the fact that we are strong women, capable of climbing damn near anything that gets in our way.

If anyone can assist me or point me in the right direction, we would all thank you forever!!!

Aug 26th flew down to Miami with my wife and another couple. We rented a car and drove to Key West. On the way down we stopped at Alabama Jacks (and a few other places). Alabama Jacks had the best Conch fritters. We had the best 4 days... Hit as many places as we could...Chart room to Captain Tony's to Irish Kevins etc etc. I even went somewhere I had not been before...Dante's? Bar with large pool by the bay. Had a great time. Had some great food...A bacon and shrimp club at Carolines. Square grouper sandwich at BO's...and key lime pie dipped in chocolate at blond giraffe...among other things... My wife's first time in Key West....she says "now I get it! " Can't wait to go back!.

Anxious to see the new bar going in Greene St called Ernesto's. Unfortunately they'll be taking part of the Conch Republic Cigar Factory space so I hope it lasts.

Recommendation at Blue Heaven (and a craving I'm currently fighting): Beef Tenderloin Benedict. This is on point. Amazing taste, beautifully prepared and you'll think about it a looong time.

A close second: Crabcake Benedict at Schooner Wharf (although very rich...but makes the beer go down quicker at 9am).

aren't there multiple Cigar Factory shops in KW? I admit that I go in with a bunch, so cigar shopping isn't something I do a lot of in KW. Speaking of which, I need to check the website, and stock up on Gurkhas before this next run.

Yes, a couple of cigar makers in KW, but I am on the Conch Republic Cigar mailing list and found out from them they made arrangements for this new bar to take some of their space on Greene. Regarding their cigars, although very good, they come at a premium price so not something I routinely puff. I have other outlets for everyday puffing on the back porch.

Ernesto's will be just one more place to stop when leaving Capt. Tony's to head to the A&B Lobster House!

I wish I hadn't read this, while I'm sure the Beef Benny is good my craving is for the LOBSTER Eggs Benny at Blue Heaven. *sigh*

I couldn't agree anymore. I was thinking about the same thing. If you go to KW and don't have Lobster Eggs Benny at Blue Heaven, you have wasted your trip. We still crave it and haven't been able to get back there for four years.

Can anyone recommend a charter fishing boat that leaves out of or around Key West?
I'm talking about the party boat type where there are a large number of passengers going out at once.
We're considering a three day weekend down there soon and I don't want to take the boat this time but I want to take my son deep sea fishing at a cheap cheap price.

i know very little about deep sea fishing, but i've had "experiences" (long story) with both Fury and Sebago for other types of sails. I would recommend Sebago based on their customer service.

The keet just called and they're (large group of college kids) are taking a day trip to KW (from Islamorada) and she asked for things to do for legal and underage kids. I gave them a large list of fun things to do and a giant list of bars and barely scratched the surface.... :o The "chaperones" with them are going to kill me.....  What were they thinking when they decided to take 70 college students to KW? :o 8)
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

There are a good amount, but there are (for a lack of a better term) vendors right along Duval Street that I usually buy from.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

Air Trans is now flying from Orlando to KW, is that the one you were thinking of?
