Just my opinion, FWIW:
Go to an amphitheater, outside. Don't go to a stadium for your first show. Amphitheaters were made for music, stadiums were made for sporting events.
Go to an outside show with tailgating.

OMG. A virgin! Where's Santa and Phritz01? They LOVE virgins ....
Welcome to the best time you'll ever have ...
As SGH said, do not see Jimmy inside ... at least until you have some tailgates and open air venues under your belt.
Best venue I've ever experienced: Maui. Real trade winds. Palms. Moon and Stars and the Southern Cross ... and about 3,000 people, tops. The venue has GRASS on the ground ... it's just fabulous.
Frisco has great tailgating. I'm not that much into stadium-type venues. I much prefer the Fair Park venue, but there are more seats in Frisco ...
Worst: Alpine - venue, not the parking lot, which is great. The year I was there, they oversold ... it was after 9/11 and security allowed only two gates open ... they hearded us on horseback. I stood in one place for 45 minutes. It was dreadful, but I understand it was just a fluke. The venue is pretty and I went, partially to see Jimmy, but also to pay homage to Stevie Ray, who died in a helicopter crash after an Alpine performance.
Have a wonderful time.

I wasn't impressed with Alpine at all. I think the venue sux and the parking lot is no better than any number of other places where I've seen Jimmy. Pittsburgh's a nice venue and a good parking lot.

Are there yellow stars and red hearts in Pittsburgh?

No, but the last time I was there (2007) there was a woman walking around the parking lot topless with pink flamingos painted on her boobs. Then a group of 5 college girls strolled by our spot and one of them invited me to go motorboatin'

I'm pretty new, too -- just two concerts so far. I've only been to Frisco, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but the tailgating is PHENOMENAL. I've started planning my year around it. There are rumors that he will be at Smirnoff in October, and friends who have been both places say that concert venue is better.

I love the Smirnoff venue, but the Frisco parking lot seems better, especially when Mr. Play gets us under the pavilion .... with ice and restrooms ... there's shade ...
But ... I still like Smirnoff ... for one thing, law enforcement is much kewler and down with tailgating ... several Dallas officers usually get "lei'd" each year ....

The flamingo lady said she was 42 years old but she was looking mighty fine. It give me a whole new perspective on those pretty pink birds.

Depends on what you can afford. If you're in eastern Canada, you could fly from Buffalo to Boston for $50 at times (one way).
