How far in advance do we need to purchase tickets for the boat to Nantucket?
Jimmy Buffett discussion

If you're taking the fast ferry over (meaning not taking your car) it's not that hard to make a reservation a day or two in advance and it's not super expensive. You can TAKE the car ferry wtihout a car but it takes longer.aeroparrot wrote:How far in advance do we need to purchase tickets for the boat to Nantucket?
Tell her she needs to get that pesky "work" thing out of the way!C-Dawg wrote:I was just telling Marilyn about possible plans to go to Nantucket on Friday between the shows.......she "was" planning on coming down Friday afternoon.....that may be changing
Ok. Thanks. I know for the Vinyard that you needed to make a reservation ahead of time if you wanted to take your car. Just wanted to see if it was the same for Nantucket.ScarletB wrote:If you're taking the fast ferry over (meaning not taking your car) it's not that hard to make a reservation a day or two in advance and it's not super expensive. SO much to do, if we're flexible we can play it by ear.
(and Jack I was just kidding - you DO know that right?)
For your car it IS kind of the same, should be more in advance than a few days. But you don't really need a car, there's a great bus system and there are always cabs, and a lot of stuff is within walking distance from the ferry but the Box is definitely NOT.aeroparrot wrote:Ok. i want to go out there when i have more time....Going from the Show on Thursday down to the Hyannis area....beach it...Trader Ed's...maybe a little Black Cat for Dinner....maybe over to the 19th hole more drinks...and who knows from there!!...Then get up early to get to GW for a Sat show!!.....Beachcomber would be nice...but i don't want to hang there all day and a bit out of the way!!![/quote]MacPhin wrote:TommyBahama wrote:I may have to consider joining in this year.drunkpirate66 wrote:Nantucket will always be my favorite summer time party spot.
My advice is pretty simple: Look at the Chicken Box schedule and book a cheap room somewhere by the harbor for when Grace Potter is playing (Wailers and Entrain close seconds). If the weather is nice and Grace is playing it is the best time to go. Rent a bike (like 25 bucks for 24 hours) and check out the south beaches like Cisco and Surfside. Get a cheeseburger at the Rose and Crown . . . great way to spend 2 - 3 days cheap.
Wasn't planning on it. How close are the lots to the ferry terminal? I was thinking of parking the car in one of the lots and walking over to the ferry.drunkpirate66 wrote:Aero . . . whoever . . .
DON"T take a car to Nantucket. Not worth it. Way too expensive! And you don't need one. Rent a bike for next to nothing from one of the shops in the harbor or just take a cab for 6 bucks anywhere on the island. What is it now? 600$ to take a car over . . . and you need to book months in advance in the tourist season. If it is just you - no car - just show up! I have never made a reservation: never needed one. Park in one of the residences next to the Steam Ship Authority and it is like 10 bucks a day to leave your car. Pound some beers at Trader Eds and off you go!
As for the Beachcomber . . . BEST bar in New England not named the Chicken Box! 15 bucks to park but you get a 15 dollar pass to eat - - - free and easy. I could spend 50 hours straight at Cahoon Hallow and the Combah' without even realizing it! Some great bands play there too!
We love the Birdie too!Steele1161 wrote:Wow, the Birdie was right. He never lets me down.
It's not unprecedented that he comes this early to Great Woods, the first time I saw Buffett at Great Woods was a July show (I think it was July) in 1994.Big Green PH wrote:Anybody know why GW is so early this year? My very first JB show (I'm a late bloomer but I'm catching up fast) was in June at GW, I think it was the Salty Piece of Land tourMonumentBeach wrote:I think he did June shows at GW 3 years ago if my memory is correct. More often than not, however, he comes around Labor Day. Sorry about your scheduling conflict.
