After 62 years together, death came 6 hours apart
She was dying, so he would, too
By JOSH FARLEY
THE (KITSAP) SUN

KINGSTON -- Death, like everything in their 62-year marriage, was something the Mosers faced together.

Eighty-four-year-old Robert, whose health had declined steadily in recent years, always expected to go first. His 80-year-old wife, Darlene, had been his steady caretaker at the Seatter Road home they built with their own hands.

That is, until December, when a cancer gave her precious few weeks of life to live.

When Robert learned that Darlene was terminally ill, he grumbled: "I'm terminal, too."

At my "advanced" age and after watching my beloved grandparents, inlaws, and others pass peacefully, I find this story oddly comforting. I've watched my 80 year old mother fight valiantly to live after a ruptured aneurysm from which only about 10% of sufferers survive. She is now slowly "giving in" or up. This story actually made me feel comfortable knowing that we have some control. [smilie=sad_mo.gif]

No, I can't think of a better ending.

My Grandparents died on 1.31.98 (grandma) and 3.10.98 (grandpa). He helped her get through and on her way to heaven. Came up to Chicago (they lived in Florida) to see everyone and then went back to Florida, was watching television one night. Got up, had a massive heart attack and was gone before he hit the ground. We were shocked when he died, but I think he knew it was time and wanted to be with grandma.
