Dutchie is always ready!!

This is going to be great - LMS party on the 16th and the concert on the 17th - get back from Vegas on the 19 or 20, roll into the office on the 21st for a couple of hours, and then stroll over to the KEY...I don't even have to worry about parking the car! WOOOHOOO!

. From news reports there's a lot of gangs in that area. Wasn't Tuba Man murdered near there?

oh just because they scare me doesn't mean I won't stay there. I'm fearless!! It's Don that may put a stop to staying close
I haven't really done any research as yet because I'm still going
![shake [smilie=shake.gif]](./images/smilies/shake.gif)
over the Frisco show. I'll check it out and let you know though!!! There is one or two that ae really within walking distance - right next to 99. Not sure about any more but we'll be down on the waterfront before Frisco to get Don a pirates hat to go with his eyepatch and we'll check it out. If not this weekend it may be the next.

Actually the area around the Key is pretty decent. As long as you stay on the north side of Town, there usually isn't a problem. Yes, we do have some gang problems, but compared to other cities - it's just in its infancy. My suggestion is to stay north of Pike Street, and west of Aurora (Rte 99) - tho anything north of Mercer should be fine - it's just if you go over by Lake Union, it can get expensive, and a bit out of the way if you are walking. There are a couple of decent chains in the area - Hampton Inn on 5th is just a couple of blocks north of Seattle Center, and there are some Holiday Inns. Check out this link, it might help:
http://www.seattle-downtown.com/seattle-center/#hotels. Down by the waterfront can be a bit of a walk, but also with some great views! Do NOT stay down by the airport - it is a easy 20 minute ride from downtown on a good day, and nothing to do in that area!
The clubs in Bell Town can get a little rough, but not as rough as Pioneer Square. And the Tuba Man's death was an anomaly for this particular area. As always, it IS best to travel in small groups.

There's a Homewood Suites that's just a couple of blocks from the 'Key (and even closer to Marcus) that might be a good choice.

Unless you're in a gang or hangin' with a gang, you probably don't need to be concerned about gang violence . . . they mostly seem intent on harming each other . . . I doubt that they'll be hangin' at the 'Key when there's 17,000 Parrot Heads flocking around.

When ever we used to come down from Alaska and stay in Seattle we would stay at the Residense inn on lake union...it is a bit of a hike but not out of the question for a walk.....there is also a silverwood suites there (east shore of Lake union)....
the homewood suite on 5th .....or is it on 2nd????....is OK...I've stayed there......the hotels (holiday Inn and others) on Aurora (99) are scary.......I stayed there one night and I think the hooker working in the alley out back got the crap beat out of her by her pimp......anyway a very restless night ....
Otherwise I think Vashon nialed it...my favorites are more downtown....the Roosevelt, the 4 seasons, the madison......but read as $$$$$$$$......

I'm sorry but I really have to disagree with that statement. Too many innocent people have been caught in the crossfire of gang turf wars. Mind you I'm not saying the Seattle Center area a really awful place but to say it's 100% safe is not accurate as well. I was at the Seattle Center back in November during the day and there were some obvious gang members down there. That being said we'll probably at Holiday Inn because we're smokers and they are one of the only ones in the area that has smoking rooms. There's just no way I'm driving all the way back to Auburn to have to get up early the next morning to drive to Northgate for work.

I said "you probably don't need to be concerned" and nowhere did I say "it's 100% safe" . . . Actually, I think more people have been killed at the Shell station one block from the Holiday Inn than at any other single spot in Seattle in the last couple of years . . .
(And don't even get me started on deaths caused by gangs v. deaths caused by cigarettes!)
If visitors stick to the touristy spots, they will
probably be OK (and most Tourists aren't gonna be hangin' out in the CD late at night)(or even in the middle of the day.....) As I keep preaching to my 'Keets, "Bad things happen to good people when they put themselves in bad spots." Don't put yourself in a bad spot and you'll be OK (probably.

)
You go to a Jimmy Buffett concert, and you're more likely to get hurt by a falling drunk Parrothead than you are by getting caught in the crossfire of some gang skirmish!
Just my opinion, based on living within 4 miles of the Seattle Center for the past 59 years (even before there was a Seattle Center, which is what remains of the World's Fair ("Century 21 Exposition") in 1962. )

You out of town visitors can feel free to contact me (or Dutchie or Vashie) for some "safe" spots to go while you're visiting . . .

My lady Sheryl is from Tacoma, we lived up there for 4 years in the late 80's. We both work in Renton and lived down in Spanaway & Pullayup!

Having lived in the Northwest my entire life (minus 6 years in the Navy) I can say this,
Seattle is going to be a great place for parrotheads to gather and there shouldn't be any problems. Just keep in mind that any place is dangerous if you aren't careful.
I used to spend every Friday and Saturday night in Pioneer Square (the bars and music there are fantastic) and never had any problems. A few high profile incidents in the last few years have given the place a bad rep but it's really not as bad as the media would have you believe.

based on what i have seen at the last several concerts, security will let in normal type (read small/non-professional) cameras. as long as you don't have a 1000mm zoom, i don't think they will notice. for video cameras, they may be a bit more selective - i have never tried!
