Amen to that!

It's just the type of discussions we've had around here for many years.

he quotes wikipedia, which quotes a random thread from here, which just goes to show that everything shows up on the internet!!
If it's posted on the Internet then it certainly must be true!
IMHO, and I could easily be wrong about this, but I can't picture Jimmy making the big announcement that whatever year it is will be a farewell tour. Can you imagine the insanity such an announcement would cause. I think there will come a year when he announces that he will not be going on the road.

I agree. It would be a madhouse..... It would be sad and maudlin for the fans (AND the band)..... It would be better to say it's done after the fact and finish with a bang, then keep playing smaller shows (Beach Band, Fishsticks, JB and Mac, etc) 'til he's 90.

I dont see Jimmy going anytime soon. It will always be five o' clock somewhere to him.

Exactly! The best thing about Jimmy's shows is the atmosphere that he creates. If he were to announce next year that this would be the last tour people would be coming to his shows knowing that this was it, and a lot of the magic would be gone. I would not want to go to a concert knowing in the back of my mind that this would be it.

So my heart has officially dropped to my stomach. Personally, I think I would want to know if it was his last show/tour. This way I could prepare myself for the loss.

Who knows when Jimmy will retire?
But, how many of you can guarantee you'll be around for next year's tour if there is one?
I had the chance to see Stevie Ray Vaughn in March, 1990, but was talked out of it by my ex wife because " he's been coming every year, we'll see him next year....I promise".
He died a few months later.
Treat every show like it's your last....savor it!
I do.

Jimmy has said a few times in the not to distant past that he is having to much fun and doesn't have any plans on retiring anytime soon. So anyone who say's that 2010 is his farewell tour is just speculating and isnt giving accurate information. If it didnt come from his mouth I wouldn't believe it. And thats all I have to say about that.

i'm going to the Raleigh show tonight...my 3rd over all. The first we'll bring our daughter too. I got to thinking: How many may she have the chance to go to? (She's 6). Will the Bun in the Oven ever get to see one and have it be meaningful.
That made me think...how does it end?
I read this thread and a lot of people say "Just do a show and have it turn out to be the last".
But...what if he decided to do a "Last Show".
Where would it be? I see 2 options: Do it on a beach somewhere...probably FLA or just hold the biggest stadium concert the USA's ever seen.
You'd have to figure that everyone and their uncle would want to go. I would have to think he could sell out a place like the LA Coliseum or Michigan's stadium in Ann Arbor (Thinking of the biggest stadiums in the USA. I think it would be a stretch to think one could do a concert at a place like the track in Indy...it's a tad large in scale.). Imagine a sold-out show for something like 140,000 people. I think he could pull it off.
Or...close down a large stretch of very wide beach somewhere and just utterly overwhelm some small beach town for a weekend.
I don't know...I just sit around and think stuff up a lot of the time.

I just got this from a friend of mine, whose brother's cousin's uncle, works with a guy who, knows someone, who used to date a girl who is distantly related to a guy who worked in an arena where Jimmy played once, 2010 will be the Farewell Tour. Jimmy will bide farewell to the 1st decade of the 21st Century and welcome in the next decade with another New Year Show.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Does anyone else miss going to concerts and events where they broadcast this type of stuff over they PA system? It only happened to me once, back at the Hampton Colosseum at a Van Halen concert in 1984, but I remember the buzz going across the crowd when they told us to watch out for the acid that looked like yellow rubber ducks.
Concerts now tend to be lame compared to when we were kids. I was at a ZZ Top show a couple of years ago where a guy got up and started dancing. The Cops came and told him to sit down. The guy was obviously drunk or stoned and got up 3 or 4 times over a 30 minute period. Finally they came and grabbed him and hauled his a$$ outta there. I was horrified. I was in the back, standing in the "smoking area" and told they guy next to me I remember the days when we were passing doobies, and now we have to sit down and shut up at a frickin' rock concert. Why bother?
Thank Gawd Jimmy's shows still allow us to act like kids, stand up and enjoy the shows the way the should be.

I remember going to see George Harrison in 1974 and when the house lights came up at intermission there was a thick cloud of pot smoke hovering mid-way between the floor and ceiling of the arena. And I can remember being a Jethro Tull show in the late 70's when a guy kept standing up on his chair blocking the view of everyone behind him. The guy behind me took his lit cig and flipped it hit the guy on the chair in the back of his head. That's how we got him to sit down. And what happened to lighters for encores? And everyone would work their way down to the floor and if you got caught all that happened was the ushers sent you back to your seat, now they throw you out. Concerts are much more subdued now than when I was a kid.

I already went to my last Jimmy Buffett concert. It was Thursday night. Luckily I'm going to my next one tonight.

I'll believe it when I see it in the National Enquirer!.. Until then no worries. When the time does come, just sail away. It has been a lovely cruise.

Jimmy said at the Atlanta show this year that he wasn't leaving until someone knocks him off, meaning that he isn't quitting until he has to do so

I am not going to think about Jimmy retiring. I'm still the new Jimmy Buffett fan on the block, and I am loving this music and the shows so much. I just want to concentrate on enjoying this ride to the maximum for as long as possible.
