If you don't want the other team to win the game on the first possession of overtime, then don't allow them to score AND then, have your offense score the winning points, otherwise, if you allow the other team to score on the first possession, you deserve to lose the game. No ifs, no ands, no buts.
You sound like a decent fellow. Can you please explain this for the hard-of-thinking?

Take a look at bestseller's answer (it was right after your question). That is why the system shouldn't be changed. Basically, a team shouldn't be rewarded with a possession if their defense can't stop an opponent. That is all. No ill will is meant.

Cutler tried to hard to do the amazing last night-result four interceptions and a loss. I have a feeling the Bear might start out 0-2 this season-Pittsburgh next week

Orton is awful. Thank goodness for our defense yesterday and being at the right place at the right time. Stokely kicks ass, and isn't to hard to look at, either.

What an ending. I can't believe it. Brandon Stokely saved the game for the Broncos. :D :D :D :D
We were given the gift of an extra 18 seconds, which we didn't really need because Stokely's play came with 25 remaining. I had a nice joke w/ hubby about "football seconds" which the play "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" made uberfunny. We were in Breckenridge this weekend and were going to go hang out at the pool. Almost turned the TV off after the Cinci touchdown, but decided to watch the end since there were only 20 (38, actually) football seconds left!

"Jaws" said that Brady looked skittish in the first half of tonight's game. Ummmm.... This is his first real game since Game 1 of last year because of an injury. Of course he will be a bit skittish, he is probably instinctively protecting his knee.

I agree on both points. That gift cost me a victory in my fantasy football league. The guy I was going against had Brady and Moss going into last night's games and I had the SD Defense and Kaeding. Because of how my league is structured and how the games played out, if Brady didn't get that last TD, I would have won by 1 instead of losing by 6.

A prime example of poor coaching on special teams. The ST coach should've reminded him that: a) possesion is paramount over field position b) the "hands" team is on the field in front of him so the normal blocking system isn't there.

The last few minutes of a close football game is where the game "speeds up". These are the situations where preparation makes the difference and poorly coached teams get frazzled.

.... and to top it off, the team was ahead with about 3 minutes left. The only thing is (I can't remember) did New England have any time outs?

I don't agree with him struggling for extra yardage, but I do agree with him bringing the ball out if the end zone.

Why?

There was 2:06 left (and the clock didn't start until the ball was touched) and NE had all three time outs.

If he hadn't brought the ball out, NE would have had 3 TOs AND the two minute warning. This would have meant that, if they stopped the Bills on a 3 and out, the Pats would have gotten the ball back with around 1:30 left and one time out.

By bringing the ball out, the KR burned off the six seconds and burned up the two minute time out.

Having NE with the ball with 1:30 left and NO timeouts is infinitely preferable, if you're the Bills, to leaving them with a potentially invaluable timeout.

Of course, he ruined all this strategy by fumbling, but that's the risk you take.

That was my thought too... probably would have been better once he was hit to immediately fall down... but really that's hard to say....

Yep, I agree going out of the end zone wasn't a bad idea, it's just that there was no "blocking" for him so he was a "dead duck" if he tried pushing his luck....

(on the other hand, that does NOT justify vandalizing his house... it's ONLY a game  )

I read something on si.com that I found interesting (especially for those of us who are fans of NFC East teams). All 12 NFC East games, including last week's Giants/Redskins game, except 2 start either at 4:15 PM or are prime time games.

ITS CHARGERS DAY!. Today will be tough with no LT, no Jamal Williams (for the season), No Nick Hardwick and several played "dinged" up. Well Mr. Rivers time to earn your pay. Tailgate menu consists of Crabcakes, bacon wrapped scallops, crab dip and steaks. We always like to cook food that represents the visiting city. Add variety throughout the season. But bread and water on Raider day does s***.
