I am going to Houston for a short trip next month. Does anyone have any reccomendations for a parrothead? This is my first visit there as well as to the Gulf Coast.

Thank you for your ideas!

I'd recomment the Marriott Courtyard Houston Downtown. That's usually where we stay. Historic building in the heart of downtown, located on the METRO light rail line. Decent restaurant in the lobby. Its right across from a HUGE Macy's that connects to the rest of the high-rises by a series of tunnels.

We haven't been to Galveston since before Ike. I know some of the restaurants, etc., are back open. Definintely go to Gaido's. Great fresh seafood, plus the best Soft Shell Crabs I've ever had.

If they're back open, Moody Gardens is an interesting attraction, Also, Take a walk through the Strand Historic District. The tall ship "Elissa" may be sailing again too.

Galveston is about a 45 minute drive down I-45 From Houston.

Ok well for starters go outside of Houston. Galveston is your best bet, well other than the fact that its getting back on its feet from Ike. It is where Buffett used to go a lot, and even made a music video there. The Strand and the Seawall are the best place for tourists, even if they are still a little messed up, but for a Parrothead to feel right at home that's your best bet! That's the best I've got for ya! Hope you will enjoy Houston and surrounding areas when you get there!

Pappasitos! Carrabbas. :)

As Dutchy says, The Spot is a great place in Galveston.

Take a look at Jerry Diaz's schedule and see if you can catch him around Houston.

http://www.jerrydiaz.com/2009schedule.html

Pan Jam is in March.

Kemah is a great place. Don't know what all is open at Boardwalk. Tropical Express is a good place to check out for shopping.

Thank you all for your reccomendations. I am taking notes from all of you and plan to check out the spot, the seawall, strand etc... in Galveston. I am staying at a friends house in Houston, Kingwood area and will be playing golf 3 days that I am there. If there are any cool spots to hit for food, beverage and entertainment in Houston please let me know. Any ideas on local music clubs on Friday and Saturday night would be appreciated.

Are you playing in a tournament?
Be sure to play the Tour 18 Golf Course if you can. It's lots of fun.

If you like Texas Music artists...
I heard the Dosey Doe is a fun place...near springparrot. I plan to make a trip there one day.

I've also gone to McGonigel's Mucky Duck a few times:

Bruce Robison is there on Friday.

Billy Joe Shaver is there March 7.

well if you are in town between march 3 and march 22 i recommend going to the world's largest rodeo.

www.hlsr.com

tickets are cheap and it gets you into everything on site. performers include rascal flats, brad paisley, brooks and dunn, pat green, reba, allan jackson, zz top, gary allen, the jonas brothers, etc....

you get a lot for your money.

btw houston folk - i'm working most weekends (and st. pattys day) so if you are going, let me know and you can come buy drink tickets from me...how often can you say your drinking supports college scholarships?
