CBS, NBC, ABC & FOX are facing hard times, just like everyone else. Viewership is down, everyone is cutting their marketing budget and the automotive industry (which is a HUGH chunk of change) has cut their TV budgets to almost zero.
Now, some of the network executives are saying the TV broadcating model has to change to survive. They want to dump local stations and go straight to cable to cash in on some of the cable fees.
If this happens, it will pretty much be the end of free TV. Over-the-air (local) TV stations will disappear.
