How about giving the money back to the taxpayers. They are the ones that buy and sell as they choose. Paying off loans would mean banks have money to loan. People buying whatever items would stimulate job growth.

Obama's plan is not going to work. It never has anywhere else.. Why should it start working now? Japan alone, went through 6 or so such type plans and all of them failed.

Common sense tells us one does not or should not constantly reward individuals or companies for their mistakes.
That is the way capitolism works. It creates leaders that can and will produce.
We are talking close to $1 TRILLION USD here. Even some democrats have come forward and said it needs to be cut by at least 20%

How many taxpayers are there? Divide 1 TRILLION bt that number and see just how much each taxpayer would potentially get. What that would stimulate in the economy.

People spending money is what stimulates the economy and growth and business. People spending money gives companies a reason to grow, expand, and provide more jobs and products.

I am definitely against this so called "stimulus" proposal. No one really knows what is in it! Obama seems to not to want anyone to know with his rush to get it passed.

A few days studying it and looking the proposal over and letting people know what all is in it, is not going to make much of a difference to anyone that matters.

A bad peice of legislation is just as bad or worse than no legislation.
We all ready know that the economic cost is close to $1 Trillion USD! We also know what that means to our National debt.

But others seem to be more concerned that spending money fighting terrorism, is a more of a waste than spending money in other countries on abortions for one example.
Our own country is at stake here. What is more important? Spending money in our county and jobs here? Or paying for "mistakes" and promicuity in other countries, instead of letting them deal with them?
When we can't even honestly deal with that single issue in our own country?

We are talking several BILLION USD on that single topic alone. No matter one's stance on abortion, that money could clearly be spent better here in our own country. Or at least lessen the future debt.

So where is Obama going to get close to $1 TRILLION USD to pay for his package? China? How much do we already owe China?

I absolutley do not and one of my biggest concerns is how they slipped their Healthcare reform items into a Stimulus package. They basically are trying to nationalize healthcare using backdoor methods and they made a huge step with this so called rescue plan. It allows for a Healthcare Czar that can dictate to doctors and medical care providers what is necessary and acceptable with regards to spending. It also deters from use of new technologies and experimental drugs to help people. If you want to see more check out this link to Bloomberg. This is a perfect example of business as usual in Washington and is exactly why no Republicans supported the bill in the House and only three supported it in the Senate.

Excellent link, I hope everyone checks it out. Very frightening.

No, I am against the "stimulus" package, not gonna work.

As a wise man told me...

1. You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out
of freedom.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for
without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the
government does not first take from somebody else.

4. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to
take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good
to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear
friend, is about the end of any nation.

Hmmm...interesting poll results (as of now it's 25-10 no over yes).
I was speaking with a former professor (from a class about Congress) earlier today about the bill and she had a poll that said that overall 54% of Americans supported the bill and when you broke it down along party lines, 75% of Democrats and 32% of Republicans supported the bill. I thought the overall numbers were higher than I thought, especially considering the lack of public support in regards to the financial sector bailout and auto bailout.

Cruzin's wife here, NO I DONT SUPPORT THE PACKAGE  Obama, Reid, Pelsoi and the rest of the band of merry thieves have managed to include every special interest that "supported their campaigns" ...can anyone say SPECIAL INTEREST... and the worst part is it will not create a single job unless of course you are a close friend of a member of congress, a lobbyist (registered or otherwise ie: Daschle, or a community activist.) I say this as some one who was at one point a registered democrat and have of late been an independant. I vote with my conscience not along party line. Sorry I just had to vent :x

Part budget surplus ... part govt going in to debt ....

Every taxpayer that earnt under 80K last year gets it. Also - people with school kids get 950 for each kid.
Lots of other things as well .....

A lot of people are giving their 900 to the fire victims - I have already donated - I am giving most of mine to my mother .. she earns less that I pay in tax each year ...

FIRST my condolences and best wishes and prayers to all of those involved in the fires and the flooding. Oz is really getting it from both ends from different ends. (if that makes any sense) Godspeed the safety to those involved!
My best wishes for you and your "stimulus" and to your mum. May you each get something you much want and stay safe from the fires and the smoke and ash. I suppose I don't need to mention that the smoke and ash can cause/create breathing/respiratory problems.
Godspeed.

I was just curious as to where the "stimulus" was coming from. It sounds like your economy is doing much better than ours.

I voted NO.

Here is a typical example of the pork in the package. From the WSJ:

The Milwaukee Public School system, for example, would receive $88.6 million over two years for new construction projects under the House version of the stimulus -- even though the district currently has 15 vacant school buildings and declining enrollment.

"In general, MPS facilities have been described by school officials as being in good to better-than-good condition," reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "The kind of situations that create urgent needs for renovation or new construction in some cities have not been on the priority list for MPS officials in recent years."

The Milwaukee situation is instructive for another reason. The city is home to the country's oldest and largest school voucher program, which provides public funds for children to attend private schools. Families who participate in the means-tested voucher program receive $6,700 per pupil, while the city spends more than $13,000 per student. In addition to saving the taxpayers money, voucher students graduate at higher rates and outscore their counterparts on reading and math exams, which is one reason waiting lists for the program are common.

Yet language in the stimulus bill expressly prohibits any dollars from going toward financial assistance to students attending private schools. In other words, Milwaukee can use the money to build schools it doesn't need, but not to expand education programs that are producing better outcomes for disadvantaged kids.

The original economic theory behind this bill was to spend the money quickly to create jobs fast. But even the most talented spenders on Capitol Hill couldn't find enough projects to fund in such a rush. So they spread out the largesse over several years -- long after everyone hopes the recession is over. Some of these "timely" stimulus payments won't hit the economy until after the 2016 Olympics.

The other big clue on the real impact for the economy is the fact that every time the package cleared a hurdle in congress the world markets went DOWN. The debt incurred by this package will drag on the economy for years.

It's a power grab. That's all this is. People ask me if I want this to succeed and if I want Obama to succeed. I want America to succeed. And I don't see that happening anytime soon. You can't just throw money at a problem, socialize business and medicine, and spend your way out of a recession. Cut the capital gains tax, the corporate tax, and the income tax and people will immediately have funds available for spending. Gov't is not the answer. Never in the history of man has big government succeeded over the ingenuity of the human spirit. But as long as we're dependent on gov't the libs will be in charge.
