I was there in 1999. Had the whole trip planned out for a number of months in advance. There are no direct flights from the U.S. into SBH, so we booked a flight into St. Martin and a puddle-jumper to St. Barts. Rented a tiny oceanfront cottage in Lorient for about 4 days (can't remember exactly, as it turns out, it didn't matter). The whole trip almost went straight to he11 when they rejected one of our passports before departure. SBarts required nothing more than a recently expired passport, but to change planes in St Martin we all needed current passports or additional supporting documents (like original birth certificates, etc). Rushed to the State Records office for documents, rebooked a later flight thru Miami/Puerto Rico. Got stuck in Miami overnight. Plane in San Juan broke down, so they rolled out another one (American Eagle). Missed our reserved flight from St Martin to SBH, so we just waited for a later commuter. Finally arrived in SBH a day late. MIRACULOUSLY, they held our reservation for the cottage and the renta-moke.
Next day was the concert on the quayside. The whole town plus hundreds of imported parrotheads showed up for the celebration. School groups performed. Marius Stackelborough spoke. Etc, etc. Then Jeemmy came onstage to play. We were close enough to count the hairs on his big toe!

Yeah. It was great!

PS - here is the tiny spot of paradise where we stayed (it wasn't dirt cheap but it didn't break the bank either)

It's already hit the MOTM thread. I understand how they feel and I feel really blessed that I'm able to even consider doing this. If I won the lottery I'd pay to take everyone.

Anybody interested in splitting a bareboat out of St. Martin? Would probably want to do a 7 - 10 day charter around Anguilla, St. Martin and St. Barts. Or could just hang around St. Barts for most of the time. Could get 2-3 couples on a 40'-42' boat for around $3k/week.

No. About $3k for the boat split between two to three couples. Actually, with three couples a slightly bigger boat would work better and would be about $3.5k. Food and drink and incidentals would be extra.

Tomorrow being Valentine's Day, I'd love for my wife to say "Let's Go!" when I tell her about this show. I've been investigating airfare and hotels all day and have narrowed it down to this, five nights at Sunset Hotel on Gustavia harbor at $64E per night plus r/t airfare out of Orlando at $900 per person. The whole travel expense comes to $2225 plus incidentals and bar tab

Now what I need to know, is this a ticketed show? I don't see any info about that on the Le Select link. Any ideas?

While I think the idea of a BN house sounds like more fun than anyone should be allowed to have (and I'd be really excited if it happened) even the 2 bedroom villas go for roughly $6K for the week, there are somewhat less expensive options but not many and some are in less desirable areas safety and accesibility wise (not that anyplace is really DANGEROUS). I'd have to believe a house with 4-5 bedrooms would be in the $20K ballpark. Having said that, again, what a blast it would be!

Look again my friend. Four bedroom villa with private pool for $2,200 per couple per week is typical. Sure, there are two bedroom villas for $6K a week and also one bedroom villas for $1,500 a week. The beauty of St Barts is that there is a place to stay for any budget...and the reality is that just being on the island is the choice, not where you stay, given the JB magic that will be happening for the event. I like the idea of those who suggest chartering a boat...the harbor is a great place to be, close to Le Select, and the island is geared up to accomodating boaters. Check this villa link for my idea that $2,200 per room for a week is doable. I do not know the villa owner and receive no commission if anyone books the villa.

Here is a website that included Sunset, Normandie and P'tite Morne...some of the more affordable places to stay on the island. I would say that the island inn keepers are not yet aware that there will be a JB surge, but they will soon be aware of that, not that they will change their rates.

Do you not have to stay at the area owned by the company in the Ad?

Are you just able to walk up the day of the show?

No requirement to rent a villa from Wimco in order to attend the Le Select Celebration, though they do manage quite a number of villas on the island and one can book a hotel through them as well.

You can stay anywhere you want, last time around there were no tickets etc, LeSelect isn't in a place where you could sell them if you wanted to, I see it as almost a KW Streetfest kind of situation.

Never been to KW...but I think ScarletB is seeing the light. Will post some photos of Le Select so forum members will have an idea of where the celebration will take place.
