Not at all diffucult...straight shot about 2 miles....parking will be another story...See if Manapany will shuttle you there and back, otherwise plan on a long walk to your car.....We are staying on St. Jean just off the end of the runway and I am seriously considering walking.....you are a bit further, but you could park at the airport and walk the mile or so......

the island is small but mountainous. either take a cab or rent a scooter.kzooparrothead wrote:My wifew and I are copming in on the 7th from St Maartens and we are staying at Manapany. Does anyone know how difficult it will be to get from the hotel to Gustavia for the show?

Re: St Barts 11-06-09
If Manapany has a shuttle then that might be an option, but how are you going to connect with them for the return trip? My advice is to rent a car. Walking is not realisitic. There are no sidewalks outside of town, the roads are narrow, and there are few streetlights outside of the main areas. The walk up from Manapany is a bit of a climb, as is the climb out of town on your return. Signage isn't all that great either.kzooparrothead wrote:My wifew and I are copming in on the 7th from St Maartens and we are staying at Manapany. ..As there won't be any parking in town that night, you are going to have to walk "a great distance" to get back to your car either way..A scooter would be suicidal, especially if you are unfamiliar with the roads..

Would anyone like to take our Flat Stanley with them to St. Barts? He's a real cute kid and doesn't eat a thing. He's even approved by the FAA for your carry on luggage. We just ask that you include him in your daily activities and take a few photos and write up a quick summary of his trip....
Anyone???

Regarding parking.....on the SBHonline forums they are discussing parking along the high road on the way out and walking into town..seems they do that for carnival and no one has a problem..They just posted a great arial shot of Gustavia and the airport on the forum under "this is serious"..check it out it, puts it in perspective.....I guess when you have crisscrossed the island using only the goat paths, a nice paved road really is not that big of a deal, c'mon people, this is a volcanic island and you are on an adventure..if you can look forward to the Columbier hike, this is nothing..

Yet another reason why I'm not bringing any shoes with high heels (not that I OWN any anyway living in the wilds of VT) but being able to be flexible is going to be keyGEED181 wrote:Regarding parking.....on the SBHonline forums they are discussing parking along the high road on the way out and walking into town..seems they do that for carnival and no one has a problem..They just posted a great arial shot of Gustavia and the airport on the forum under "this is serious"..check it out it, puts it in perspective.....I guess when you have crisscrossed the island using only the goat paths, a nice paved road really is not that big of a deal, c'mon people, this is a volcanic island and you are on an adventure..if you can look forward to the Columbier hike, this is nothing..

Scarlet..it is about 5 minutes by car from the quay....from the airport..about 2 minutes..along the beach...remember it really is a small Island.....the crowd from the "other side" are all Buffett fans too, and some of them know Jimmy quite well from all the time spent on SBH....there are no "snooty" attitudes in person..Really is one big family on this Island, first time or repeat....trust me on this one....see you at Tom Beach Bar or at the concert......strictly casual and everything is accepted...RELAX....I bring all my grubby beach clothes and no one cares...

Here is a link for what appears to be the least amont of money for snorkeling. For this to work we would need to book it for Thurs the 5th. Not sure who will be there then.
There are a few others I can post as well. Just thought I'd list this one to see if there's interest. If we can't get 10 people for the private excursion then there is still the non-private. I think it would be fun. I'd like to see the island from the water.

I'll be seeing Carol this weekend, they're headed here for Oktoberfest so I'm sure we'll start talking about our game plan for Saturday. Thank God we're staying longer than the weekend, I think we'll need a few days to recoverGEED181 wrote:Scarlet..it is about 5 minutes by car from the quay....from the airport..about 2 minutes..along the beach...remember it really is a small Island.....the crowd from the "other side" are all Buffett fans too, and some of them know Jimmy quite well from all the time spent on SBH....there are no "snooty" attitudes in person..Really is one big family on this Island, first time or repeat....trust me on this one....see you at Tom Beach Bar or at the concert......strictly casual and everything is accepted...RELAX....I bring all my grubby beach clothes and no one cares...

Ron, i remember where Andy's is. dave and i had some pizza there. yesterday i was reading the posts about the get together on the forum. i would like to stop by and introduce myself. i was thinking about posting something on the board in any event.GEED181 wrote:Scarlet..the SBHonline get together is at Andy's Hideaway, as you go down past the airport, Past Eden Rock, the road will split, Hideaway is dead ahead between the split, again, finding parking will involve walking.......Please try to show up and introduce yourself, you will be running into all these good folks everywhere you go and it is nice to put faces with the names on the website...And bring Carol with.....
On another note, the boat trip on Thursday won't work for Dave and I. However, it's not a huge priority on my list since my inner ear thing has been acting up. The last thing I want is to be sick on a boat.
