We were lucky. When we rescued Attilla last year, he turned out to be quite the sweet kitty.

I had been scared to death of him at first (hence the name) He always hissed when he came to eat and looked at us like he was contemplating what we'd look like without our various body parts.

We found out later that he has been all four paw declawed and used a "good offense" as his defense. That poor cat was outdoors for a year with no claws...
Poor thing. :( But he's a BEAUTIFUL cat!! :D

Same here. I'm going to forward that to someone who said today she is "considering" getting a dog from the shelter.

I have a chow/retriever dog, Little Bear, that rescued me and becomes more and more faithful and devoted every day. He tries to learn every word I say to understand me better. He knows, "Let's go get Nick" "Let's go see Grandmom" "Look at the cows" and he knows all the names of the other dogs we see in the park, because if I just say them in conversation, he looks everywhere. He stays by my side no matter what room I am in. Good thing his food dish is in the computer room or he'd never eat!
