Sail on SeaNile's dad!

Thank you for sharing your dad with us. Inspirational posts such as this remind me what being a fan of this music is really all about.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at this time. When it comes time to scatter your dad's ashes I hope that the day will be a lovely cruise and a celebration of what sounds like a wonderful life.

It's the child in us we really value
Here we are, with our fins up and our feathers flashing
Here we are, with our coconut shell brassieres chanting

So sorry for your loss. All I can think of is the lyrics from "The Captain and the Kid." May your memories and the music give you peace and smiles.

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

SeaNile wrote:Right around Christmas my father, 70, passed away. We had a million great times together and he was the one who introduced me to Jimmy's music from a pretty early age. I always knew he liked Jimmy's music but didn't realize just how much till it was time to help my Mom clean out the house. I guess the cd with 125+ songs of all Jimmy which we played on our fishing trips should have given me a clue. The night he passed as the entire family was gathered at the house we decided to go into his office and gather some of his CD's a listen to them. I was certain to find Ella Fitzgerald, Frank but was shocked to see how many Buffett CD's where in there. So there is the family trying to have a mournful evening but all we could find was Buffett CD's. It was great. Certainly brought back a lot of memories. Then the following week it's time to clean out the house and again was surprised to see how many concert T shirts he had in his closet. I didn't realize he was going to Buffett concerts all these years. I will never forget the one show in Camden with my now wife and Dad, it was the first time I heard Jimmy's version of Southern Cross. it's something I will never forget.

Like a true sailor my Dad's wishes were to be spread out at sea. The family agrees a Buffett playlist needs to be made for the voyage. Southern Cross and It's Been a Lovely Cruise will for sure be on the list. It'll be a somber day for sure when the weather breaks, the family gathers, the diesel engines fire up and "It's Been a Lovely Cruise" is on the stereo. Our boat was his pride and joy and I can think of nothing more fitting then him going on this one last trip.

The circle of life is amazing. My 4 year old absolutely loves Jimmy and it is comforting to see how some things are passed on from generation to generation.
