Man, been quite a few years (17? 18?) since I was at a Showgram event. Went to many breakfasts and several Johnny and the Leisuresuits concerts. Ahh, the good old days. Odd that I wasn't a Parrothead way back then, but do remember all the Buck Butt commotion.
OMG — you're talking about Johnny Brandmeier!!!! I thought I was probably the only sentient being who would admit to having heard about him and his band.
Came across an old cassette tape of his (Best of Brandmeier, I believe it was titled). Fairly decent original songs; especially liked his version of "I Fought the Law" where he sang about his travails with the FCC, the Loop, and some other southern radio station.
So he's still on the air, eh? Heck, he must be almost 60 by now.....

Yep, he's still on the air, and being a creature of habit, and an ever-loyal fan, I still listen. And being he was probably my first obsession, I can tell you he'll be 53 on July 15th.

My favorite cassette was "Almost Live, Almost New", which had Hey Der, Moo Moo, We're All Crazy, Fought the Law, etc on it. I might have to whip it out, for old time's sake!
Speaking of whipping it out, I've resisted, but I think it's time to do it again... anyone happen to attend my wedding on the Odyssey Yacht at Navy Pier (when it was a large flat cement nothing) in September 1991? It was an open to the public breakfast broadcast!
And now, the rest of the story - setting the wayback machine:
Here's the short version... Johnny B... Chicago's #1 morning radio Showgram in 91... prize was a wedding with all the bells and whistles, in conjunction with SportsFest, live over the radio airwaves from the Odyssey Yacht at Navy Pier... picked 2 biggest "sports fan" couples to go head to head in a trivia contest live from the studio friday morning... we won, to be married the following friday morning... we weren't even engaged, but living in sin... but almost all of our friends and family listened to the contest on the radio, then rallied to attend the live Friday morning wedding broadcast at a week's notice.
Included dress, tuxes, rings, flowers, cakes, San Diego Chicken best man, Laker Girls bridesmaids, Mr America carried me down aisle, limo from home and back, Burt Parks last public appearance, too many to mention them all sports celebrities in our wedding book and photo album, Lonnie Brooks played, brunch at The Drake, pictures, cruise honeymoon (that we never took)... I think that's about all. Oh, and a lifetime with the guy in the tux... they said it would never last... and they were right!

Divorced last March, after 16 years.
