Hypothetical: Found Money.

Need to tell you my Karma Story now.

Was in my favorite watering hole having a drink or three. Walked to the bathroom by way of the pool tables. I found a Twenty dollar bill on the floor between two tables. There wasn't many people in the place and nobody playing pool. I hung on to the twenty and went back to my bar stool. After a few minutes a guy walks in and begins moving around the room slowly looking down. I asked him if he'd lost something and he says. Yeah, a twenty dollar bill. I reached into my pocket and gave it to him and told him where I found it. This guy looked like that was the last twenty he had in the world and he wanted to buy me a drink. I told him no thanks cuz I was going home after I finished the one I had.

Cut to (about) 3 weeks later........

Pool league night and my team was playing at home. We kept our cues in lockers provided for us by the owner of the bar. I went to my locker and got out my cue and started practicing. About a half hour later I realized I was $60.00 short. I started retracing my steps and when I got back to my locker there on the floor under it was my $60.00.

I am quite sure if I had kept the 20 I found I would never have found the 60 I lost.

So, Yeah I would turn it in.

Using that analogy, that would mean if you found the (almost) $3 mil, you would have around $9 mil to lose...

If I had 9 mil to lose, yeah, I'd probably turn it in.

I don't believe in karma, so that's not an issue for me.

From the circumstances, I'm guessing those who lost the money won't file a 'lost and found' claim at the local sheriff's office.

It would secure an anonymous retirement for me in a warm place with cheap booze and friendly natives, something my airline pension likely will no longer do. I might even look up 'Kenny Boy' Lay and move in next door.

I'd take my chances with the 'Angel of Death' (ala No Country for Old Men).

I think this would all work out very well for me if I was single and had only my own skin to look after.

But I'm not and I don't. Wife and two kids (although grown up now). Too risky for them.

Under the present circumstances, I'd have to turn the money in or make an anonymous donation to a shelter for abused women.

I have to admit I'd be too scared to even put it in my car. I'd call the police immediately.

If I took it even for a moment it would prolly be tied to some crime and they'd think I did whatever it was.

No way I'd take it! Not even for a minute.

I would keep it for a few days and wait to see what happened. If nothing was published about the loss, I would probably donate it to my fave charity here at home--Victim's Assistance with a few thousand going to the Soap Box Derby. No way would I keep it for myself. Karma sucks

Okay, here's the hypothetical scenario:

You're taking a drive down a country road near your home when you spot two dark blue vinyl suitcases laying in the ditch.

Curious, you stop, get out and examine them. You pop one open and are shocked to find it contains money. Heck, it not only contains it, it's full of it, and a quick inspection of suitcase number two reveals that it is pregnant with currency as well.

Hurriedly you load the suitcases into your vehicle and head to Wal Mart, where you purchase a package of those pens that stores use to hit hundred dollar bills to see if they are counterfeit.

You arrive home and test a few bills from each suitcase. All are legitimate, real U.S. currency. You take the suitcases to your bedroom, close the door, draw the drapes, lay your Ruger GP100 .357 Magnum revolver out on the dresser just in case (you did watch "No Country for Old Men" last year, after all), and begin counting the money.

When the count is in the tally is $2,755,300, all in used, good condition hundred dollar bills, tightly banded in stacks of 100 ($10,000 each). And the suitcase contains no identification whatsoever (and no transponders, either).

The question for you now is, what do you do with this money?

Do you keep it?

Do you turn it in?

What do you do with these two blue vinyl suitcases full of greenbacks?

This would never, ever happen. I don't shop at Walmart and I haven't seen "No Country for Old Men".

Whoever owned the money, is going to be sending someone (or several someones) to look for it. I would be concerned of the possibility there is some sort of tracking device in the money or bags. (The new US currency bills supposedly can be tracked and counted, if the goverment decided to do so. I make no claims one way or the other about that.)

Turning it over to the proper authorities, and if no one claims it after a certain ammount of time, usually it is given back to the person who found it. I suppose this depends on the laws on where one resides.

If someone actually claims it, they are going to have some explaining to do, to a lot of people, that they probably are not going to want to talk with. Meaning IF you finally get awarded the money, where do you think they are going to come looking?

That being said how does one know, it is not karma being kind to them? Rather than karma "testing" them once again?

$1,000,000.00 USD (let alone almost $3 Million) in cash, is not a very small package. You are talking about well over 200,000 $100.00 US bills. They would have to be very LARGE suitcases.
I am not sure if I have ever seen a "suitcase" that big.

OK... so it's a dealers/Pimps/Bookies.. money..
and I keep it... throw out the less than $5000 rule..
that will get you caught..
how do I explain the $100s?? sure you could..
spend that money on a weekly basis for Food/clothes/ETC..
and keep the money you would spend in the bank..
But the IRS would wonder why you suddenly had more
percentage of Savings.. (yep it's reported for some cases)
so you are busted.. Feather it in??
probably the best way.. eat and drink a little better..
every other week spend cash.. around town.. never the same
place twice in a row.. Albertsons here Walmart there..
Ball Game?? yep.. once in a while good seats..
Beer, hotdogs... little items?? (Ipod,Camera, New Dishes for the Wife)
yep.. but again pace yourself.. Bars?? no way.. THEY will
notice a 100$ in a heart beat..
Travel?? no way.. again maybe a dinner or a strip club..
but Cars?? no.. Hotels?? oh no.. they have your address..
Plane Tix.. UH... no..
and you know better than getting caught with very much cash on an airliner..


it would take the rest of your life to spend and not raise a flag..
the wolves would be looking for someone spending a lot of 100$s..
and with a lot of "stuff" all of a sudden..



of course I would turn it in to the cops.. Hope I get it and pay Taxes on it..

1 million in hundreds is only .4 cubic feet, according to your website. That's a foot square, by about 5 inches deep. That's not that large. It would fit in a small briefcase, easily. Two smallish suitcases would be more than enough to hold the amount in the OP.
