We are going to playa del carmen diving next week. WE have a dive shop already but does anyone know of a really good one? Thanks, Kathy

I haven't dove In Playa del Carmen, we did Cozumel and used Sand Dollar. Personally, I'd recommend the diving in Coz, but not the Dive Op we used. You aren't far from Coz, make the trip, it's worth it.

I also have never dove in playa but Cozumel is great and so is this operation if you want small boats and personal service. My husband is PADI MSDT and I am PADI OWSI. We were able to go dive where ever we wanted with these guys.

Same here..we've been to Playa Del Carmen numerous times, but haven't ever scuba dived there. We have in Cozumel and loved it! We've used Roberta's Dive Shop (friends of a friend of mine own it...wonderful dive team!). Like C said...make the short ferry ride over to Cozumel and dive there...definitely worth it!

Re: diving in mexico
I haven't had a birthday dive trip in a long time. Heck I haven't had a dive of any type for a long time. If I go to Cozumel or somewhere else for a dive trip on my bday it will be great. Even considering diving Hawaii. Anyway this summer will be 3 years since my last dive.VanillaGrl wrote:Duuuude...Are you serious?!?!? Re: diving in mexico
Really? Hmmm...they had two locations there. Last I heard, which of course was last year, they were still there. I'll have to check on it.diverg wrote:BW I don't know of Robertas, but she may have sold the operation.VanillaGrl wrote:Duuuude...Are you serious?!?!? It leads to bluebubbledivers website, and it states there are new owners. Plus on a scuba message board the new owners posted about buying bluebubbles etc. Back to work I go.

Re: Diving in Mexico
Also can not comment on Playa Del Carmen but agree cozumel is worth the trip. Diving is great. So where is everyones favorite dive destination. Ours was Roatan off the coast of Hondoras and Cuan Law live aboard in BVI's.

Re: Diving in Mexico
I enjoyed Belize and Cozumel, but my favorite was the outer islands of the Bahamas, the Exumas. I did a live aboard for week diving the Cays....it was awesome.looseends wrote:Also can not comment on Playa Del Carmen but agree cozumel is worth the trip. Diving is great. We should do a BN dive trip....maybe dive the Keys a few days before MOTM and combine the trip

Re: Diving in Mexico
While I was in Tulum, not too far south of Playa, I heard that diving in the ocean there was not so great. I don't know how true that is.
If I could dive I'd like to dive the some of cenotes in the area.

I used to go to Cozumel twice a year. I dove with Deep Blue Cozumel on the first trip and never bothered to try any of the other dive ops.

Re: Diving in Mexico
I've heard the same thing and was surprised. The diving in Coz is awesome, and in Belize also, but in between they say it's nearly as good. Even articles I've read in dive magazines say the same.sonofabeach wrote:While I was in Tulum, not too far south of Playa, I heard that diving in the ocean there was not so great. Re: Diving in Mexico
All this dive talk is giving me the fever and is definitly way to cold to break out the dry suit for NJ diving. Diving in the keys has always been great. Seem to always have some kind of shark encounter.

Re: Diving in Mexico
Drysuit? I've dove wet year round here in VT, however as I get older, I hate the cold more and more. I'm finishing my Dive Master cert, and hope to have it done by 4th of July. I have 3 written exams, need a current physical and to renew my CPR card, and do the mapping project.looseends wrote:All this dive talk is giving me the fever and is definitly way to cold to break out the dry suit for NJ diving. As for the Keys, I agree....last time I dove Carysfort Reef off Key Largo I had a 7ft Hammerhead come up within 10 ft of me. However it came up behind me, in my blind spot, as I was trying to get a picture of the other Hammerhead that was swimming parallel to it (in front of me). I missed getting a great picture of the other one close up. By the time my dive buddy got my attention, all I saw was the tail swimming off into he murk.

Re: Diving in Mexico
You know it would be awesome to have a BN's group dive trip somewhere. I wonder how many people would be interested in this...maybe I should start a seperate thread to find out.

I agree, we should have a Mod move this to a new thread.diverg wrote:You know it would be awesome to have a BN's group dive trip somewhere. I wonder how many people would be interested in this...maybe I should start a seperate thread to find out.
I know I'm booked for the next 12 months, but the winter of 2010/11 would work for me, and would give people time to save for the trip, or even get certified if they wanted to join us. The only thing I'd like to suggest.....we do a liveaboard with a phlocking when we get off the boat. Otherwise, keeping the diving and the phlocking separate would be really hard.
I've done Blackbeard's Cat Ppalu in the past....holds 12 divers, does the outer islands of the Bahamas where the reefs are pristine, and is ported in Nassau where a Phlocking would be fun. It's also rather inexpensive, going for about $1500 each, which is all inclusive, including alcohol.
If we got enough interest, and by that I mean people ready to sign up and pay deposits, I could probably set it up thru the dive shop I work at, and set up a payment schedule.
It doesn't have to be the Cat Ppalu either....we should probably first start with gauging interest and locations people would be interested in. Then, if we have the interest, I'm willing to work on setting up packages. I've set up and run dive trips before.

Re: Diving in Mexico
Thats a fine suggestion, but at the moment it is hard for me to plan that far out. I'm doing/going somewhere this summer. be it a dive trip or just a vacation. I know its hard to plan a group trip on short noticed, but who knows maybe a few people can get together and plan something.C-Dawg wrote:I agree, we should have a Mod move this to a new thread.diverg wrote:You know it would be awesome to have a BN's group dive trip somewhere.
