I need to vent

If I had known this was going to happen I would have purchased that house I couldn't afford but absolutely loved. Instead, my wife and I chose a more modest, but still nice house which we could afford. Now the federal government is bailing out people who bought houses beyond their price range. What is more, Obama is out there speaking about reigning in goverment spending while at the same time jetting around the country in Air Force 1. During the campaign he, with McCain, talked about limiting pork barrel politics, but his stimulus package is loaded to the gills with it. The markets are looking at his strategem and seeing that it can't work, so the markets are tanking. He did not inherit this financial mess he was one of the ones who helped orchestrate it. He was in the US Senate, part of the body responsible for the purse strings and voted "Present" rather than making a stand.
Where is the Change? Where is the Hope? Where is the "not business as usual" that he promised us? This guy is just another cheap political hack. I "Hope" America wakes up and realizes it before the next election.

I sympathize. You have every right to feel the way you do.
One minor note: the House of Representatives holds the pursestrings, not the Senate.

Yeah, jetting around in Air Force One....what a crime for the President of the United States. Should he be flying coach like the rest of us?
You know they said the same stuff about FDR........

The man has been in office less that 3 months and already no one is happy. For most people there is no one who would make them happy. People are not getting a bailout, they are being allowed to refinance their mortgages and keep their house. It's not fair, but maybe it will help to stem the tide and change the economy from going completely down the toilet, which might save your job and thereby save your house. I really believe that Obama is doing the best he can with what he has. We all know that you and a bunch of other people on this board wanted McCain and Palin, guess what sweetpea you lost. Get over it. I would but down every dime I've got to say that McCain would be doing the same thing. I know know that this talk of working together and bipartisan on this board was a load of crap. Now they've switched to b**** and moan mode.

Hey guess what -selfedit, sorry- when he won, I was one of the ones that said "He is our president and we should give him a chance". Here are a couple of things that he has done vs what he said he would do.
1) Cut back on pork barrel politics. - Produce a stimulus package absolutely loaded with pork that has nothing to do with stimulating the economy. The top ten porkers include 6 Reps and 4 Dems. Not in the top ten but also in that boat are Hillary and Joe Biden.
2) Not business as usual in Washington anymore. - Produced names for his team which include top Lobbyists and former senators who also seem to feel that paying taxes is optional unless nominated for a cabinet post.
You may believe Obama is doing what is best. I happen to believe otherwise and look at his campaign promises against what he has done to see that it is business as usual in Washington.

Yeah that press room in the White House can get stifling. You know, the one set up for briefings. Or even that Oval Office place. I guess that wouldn't work either. How can he, without blushing in embarrasment, tell us that the government needs to cut spending while he walks down the Air Force 1 staircase knowing the millions of dollars it costs every time he steps aboard and go somewhere.
What, is it OK for him to spend millions, but not the congressmen?

I'm going to refrain from commenting on the particular discussion in this thread, with one exception ......
For the record, anyone who uses the term "Hey guess what sweet pea" in a discussion with me, totally loses all credibility and respect from me as someone I care to debate with, even if I may happen to agree with most of their "non-smarmy" points. Putting those types of phrases in a response is just a conscience effort to fan flames of discontent. I am always disappointed when I see things like this in a debate.
My two cents. Carry on.

$200 million for Philipino WWII vets most of whom do not live in the US. While laudatory, probably not somehting we should be doing in the economic situation we are in. Shall I go on?

As I said, laudatory, but should we do it now? And your question was an example of "something specific that won't benefit this country in the long run". So tell me how $200 million going out of this country will benefit our country. Nice try on trying to shift away from first point though.

It is the honorable thing to do, I know after 8 years of Bush honor is a difficult concept to fathom, but it is the right thing to do and that is why it benefits the country. Benefits are not necessarily monetary in value.

This is the economic stimulus package we are speaking about. So how is this $200 million going out of the country going to stimulate our economy?
