Thanks everyone. I feel like part of the family already. You guys are great. Just what I would have expected from JB fans. Hope to meet some of you in AC.

Welcome Ricky. So sorry for your loss but I hope that Jimmy has and we can make your load a little lighter. Jimmy's songs have always been my way of relaxing and revving up, depending on what I play. I recently turned 60 and have been a Bubba fan since 1971. His music helped me through my divorce in 1973, my 18 years of single motherhood, cheered me during losses and helped me celebrate at every opportunity. Although I don't post frequently, I'm always around here lurking. You'll find great people here and be sure to check out the Pre-Concert Gatherings Forum to meet people who will be attending the same concert.

Enjoy. :wench:

Welcome to BN! there is absolutely nothing about your post that is cliche. I joined the insanity 2 years ago. Why I did not become a parrothead sooner I will never know, but better late than never. Jimmy's music and a lot of wonderful parrotheads came along at just the right time, and like you, Jimmy's music has gotten me through some very bad times.

RickyB,

Just adding my personal welcome to you to the wonderful, wacky world of BN! :pirate:

Great people, super supportive atmosphere, and great place to chat about anything that's on your mind. Even better when you actually meet fellow BNers at events around the world. My wife and I will be at the AC show so maybe we can share boat drink or two......

I was a long-time "closet" Buffett fan, I liked his music but never attended a concert or owned more than a couple of the better known CDs. Then in 2004, I think, the TV show "60 Minutes" did a great episode on Jimmy, his music, his fans, the whole Parrothead thing. That night while watching the show I merely mentioned to my wife "Wow, maybe we should go to a Buffett concert sometime before he retires."

We got tickets for the 2005 Salty Piece of Land tour at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia. Went through a broker (we didn't know better) but got a last minute upgrade to center stage, row 5 seats! I mean we were right "there" looking up at JB the whole show. Needless to say, we were hooked and this year will be attending our 6th (AC) and 7th concerts (Nissan) since 2005! Sorry to say that we've never had seats better than that first show, but we've enjoyed every one of them! And, of course, we now own almost all of the JB music/video collection as well as assorted Margaritaville accessories...... :pirate:

After seeing JB live you will never (a) be the same or (b) listen to his music the same again. The CDs just sound better after seeing a concert in person. His music and concerts are an escape from whatever each of us seeks. So welcome, buckle up, hang on, and enjoy the ride........ :D

Awesome post Ed! I really want to get my hands on that 2004 60-minutes interview.

I know my life has been so much better in the past couple of years since I became hooked. The music is great. It puts me in a good state of mind. I have also met some very nice people because of JB's music. This is one time when madness is a good thing.

Aloha RickyB! Jimmy and the lifestyle he is linked to is ageless and I'm glad you found your way! Anywhere from southeast of Disorder all the way to the Port of Indecision, the lure of tranquil seas, stories set to music and lone palms are the drug Parrotheads seek.

Make sure you pickup a copy of Tales From Margaritaville and A Pirate Looks At 50. That will help bring even more insight to Bubba's music.

Welcome Ricky... I'm relatively new to the board myself, and didn;t really appreciate JB until a few years ago (I'm 44 now)
No disrespect to our younger friends, but I think we appreciate JB more the older we get. We need some soothing stuff, rather than the headbanging stuff (been there-done that -- bought the t-shirt that was not wear-able after 1 wash).

Deepest condolances in regards to your bride.
Sittin by the pool with a Yuengling, listening to Jimmy

Welcome, Ricky!

I was a late bloomer also...didn't "discover" Jimmy till 1999...when I was 43...even tho I had the yellow album and Fruitcakes for several years (got them through Columbia House or BMG or one of those record clubs) but didnt really "listen" till 1998..and that was thanks to my two sons! Then I was hooked and very sorry I hadn't found his music and fans earlier....

Very sorry to hear of the loss of your wife....it's tough...I lost my husband to cancer almost 13 years ago...just hang in there and take one day at a time! Of course stopping by here is bound to cheer you up...there's usually someone around all the time!
