U2 (Their new stage looks great!)

Post by MileHighPirate »

http://360.u2.com/

Saw U2 in '92 at THE ZOO TV TOUR at the ORIGINAL MILE HIGH STADIUM. That day, I became a fan.

The only other time I have seen them was in 2004 at THE VERTIGO TOUR.

Even if you're not a fan, look at their new stage! They have always had crazy stages for their shows.

And, doesn't hurt that they will actually have pretty affordable tickets for the time, perhaps, EVER.

Only problem right now (if you want to see them) is that they have more European Dates than dates here in the States (4 shows?).

Surely, they'll add more. Don't call me Shirley. Anyways. I like the new stage and thought I'd share.

Here's a link to the U2 collection from last week's Late Show, when they were the musical guests all week long. Five or six songs, a Top Ten list and a couple of other comedy bits.

The U2 360° Tour (presented by BlackBerry) will visit 14 cities across Europe including dates in Milan, Gothenburg, Amsterdam, Paris, Nice, Dublin, Chorzow, Berlin, Gelsenkirchen, London, Sheffield and Glasgow before finishing at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on August 22.

The European tour will be followed by dates in North America beginning at Chicago's Soldier Field on September 12th, 2009.

In September and October, U2 360° Tour will also visit: Atlanta, GA; Charlottesville, VA; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Las Vegas, NV; Los Angeles, CA; Norman, OK; Phoenix, AZ; Tampa, FL; Washington, DC and Vancouver, BC. Complete Tour and ticketing information to follow.

Long-time U2 Show Director Willie Williams has worked again with architect Mark Fisher (ZooTV, PopMart, Elevation and Vertigo), to create an innovative360° design which affords an unobstructed view for the audience. U2 360° also marks the first time a band has toured in stadiums with such a unique and original structure.

Their last stage design was like none I'd ever seen (especially the super cool perimeter lighting).
They really are setting the standard for imaginatve presentation. 8) :P

Peter Gabriel or The Stones would be the next most vivid stages I can remember..

Can't wait for them to hit America this fall.... and I hear SD is close to securing a date
Seeing U2 and Blind Faith (Clapton & Winwood) are at the top of my must-see list.... yeah, I said it.

I'm going to try to get tickets for the Foxborough show.

I'm going to see if I can get to Davis Square tonight, since they have a show at the Somerville Theatre.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

Can't wait... Kicks off in Chicago!
I was at the Zoo TV show at Mile High, also attended the 1983 show at Red Rocks (Under a Blood Red Sky), McNichols Arena and Sun Devil Stadium for the Rattle And Hum Tour.... haven't seen them in 14+years, but still dig most of their of their newer music. I think the new CD is good, and look forward to seeing them at Soldier Field...

Hey KK! :D

I was thinking of you this week when U2 was all over the Chicago news with a small private intimate Q&A at a club in the city. How would you compare and contrast Bono and Jimmy Buffett? How would you compare and contrast U2 and the CRB?

Gracias!

(By the way, any and everyone who wants to can do the same if so inclined. I'm curious is all.)

Seems kinda like comparing apples and oranges, really

Bono is a worldwide rock star, recognizable across oceans. Jimmy looks like an everyman, really not known outside his fans.

The bands are both tight, but their creative paths only cross when doing covers.

U2 sells out arenas and stadia alike, worldwide. Buffett sells out amphitheatres across America, and intimate settings in outlying special places (Aruba, Tahiti)

U2, particularly Bono, are world leaders in charitable outreach, hard to name others in music who do more for world causes.
Jimmy Buffett's charities are more modest, and localized... kinda like Jimmy himself, really.

Both are damn fun to go see in concert :P

Apples and Oranges would be a good place to start....

In 2005 I saw JB and Wrigley Field and 2 weeks later I saw U2 at the United Center. You can't really compare the shows or the bands. Although, I have to admit U2 let me down at that show I saw.

Apples and oranges they may be, but they are both good for you, and have been around forever!

I know quite a bit about Jimmy and the CRB, but barely anything about U2, other than they've been around at least since I was in HS in the 80's and have commercial and charting success.

Is Bono a songwriter? Does he have a family? Can he play an instrument? What are his hobbies? How did he come to form a band with his bandmates? Do any of them do solo stuff too? I figure fans of both could go on forever, and would have fun in the process!

I think its wild to just watch U2 grow and see what they do with their shows. I had seen U2 twice at the Nassau Coliseum, once for Unforgetable Fire, and then The Joshua Tree. I believe the Joshua Tree show was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Saw them again for Zooropa Outside Broadcast at Yankee Stadium. I actually liked them more in the smaller venue doing a "normal" concert. They overall size and spectacle with the giant tv's was something else. I think at this point they are just to big to come back to the coliseum. I do like the whole concert in the round idea though, not a bad seat in the house.

What are the chances of SNOW in Chicago in September? Is it always warmer there in September than you might think?

Maybe worth a road-trip, for the first US show....but maybe I'll wait and see what the weather report is like.....though if dressed accordingly, bet it'd be great!!

Well so much for the cheap tickets that were advertised. 250 for best, 95 for good, 55 for nosebleed and 30 for last row. All that plus 13 per ticket of fees. Not complaining about prices, but when you say you are doing affordable tickets, this aint it.

Well, my buddy in Los Angeles and I were on the phone together when the Los Angeles U2 Date (read: Pasadena's ROSE BOWL) went onsale at 10am Cali time today.

We both went fishing for tickets at the exact moment the onsale began.

We both tried for the $56.00 GA (Field) tickets. We both got in during the first two seconds that the clocked turned to 10am.

Both of us were denied GA tickets. Definitely bull$hit.

Anyways. We stayed on the phone and fished for tickets for half an hour, each of us telling the other what one had scooped up in that given moment before we dumped the tix to try again.

Well, knowing this tour is called THE 360 Degree Tour, we figured if we found some good "BEHIND THE STAGE" Tickets, we would definitely go for those.

After all, it would seem like the cool stage is configured to finally give those "Behind" and on the side the equal experience to those in the "front".

We found 4 tickets at The Rose Bowl in Section 25 (almost in the center, "Behind" the stage) about half way up the 77 rows.

The tickets, with service charges, came to $39.00 a ticket. It seemed too good to pass up, so he bought 'em.

I now have a U2 ticket in my name. I just need to decide if I'm going to fly out for the show (which I think I will now).

After he confirmed the tickets for U2, I immediately said, "Hey man. U2 is in Pasadena Sunday, October 25th. DID YOU KNOW that Jimmy Buffett is playing Vegas October 24th?!"

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Decisions, Decisions.
My buddy has never seen JB before and is interested.

Just read that the 70,000 to 90,000 tickets for U2 at THE ROSE BOWL have SOLD OUT in less than a day today, give or take single tickets and the obvious tickets that will randomly pop back into ticketba$tard's system leading up to the date.

My buddy said he might be down to pick me up in L.A. that Friday or Saturday morning, Go to Vegas for JB on the 24th, Then return to Hollyweird for U2 at the Rose Bowl the following day.

It.
Just.
Might.
Work.

Decisions, decisions. Gonna check finances and see what might happen.

TO BE CONTINUED......

Julie, my wife's best friend, is a huge U2 fan. We have tickets to the opening night of the tour on Sept. 12 at Soldier Field. New stage looks really cool.

I like the album, do not love it-yet
