hoping too. But, one source was not painting a good picture at all. Hopefully that was just panic and stupidity.

Natasha Richardson reportedly brain dead after ski accident
British actress Natasha Richardson, critically injured in a skiing accident, is brain dead and on a flight to the United States for ''a family farewell,'' The New York Post reports.
Richardson, 45, will then be removed from life support, according to The Post.

The Tony-winning actress was hospitalized in Montreal after falling on Monday during a private lesson on a beginners' trail at the famed Mont Tremblant ski resort.

Initially, Richardson was conscious, even joking about the tumble (sans helmet) on the beginner's trail with her instructor at the luxury resort, according to Mont Tremblant spokeswoman Catherine Lacasse.

Richardson's two sons with husband Liam Neeson, 56, Michael, 13, and Daniel, 12, witnessed the fall.

Things looked OK at first because she walked unassisted to their hotel room, Lacasse said. But about an hour later, Richardson -- daughter of Oscar-winning actress Vanessa Redgrave and late director Tony Richardson and sister of Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) -- complained of a headache and was rushed by ambulance to the hospital.

What an awful tragedy, for any family. Even worse to have to deal with all of this in the public eye.

The NYTimes just broke their story .... with two anonymous sources "close to actress" that she is, indeed, in serious condition.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. I really like her.

I've skied at that resort a few year's back, when i first heard about this I was wondering what trail she was on because there is no off piste skiing there and the mountain doesn't offer that much extreme skiing, thinking of course of what Bono was doing when he died. Then I found out she was on a green trail and just lost her balance and fell and didn't hit anything. Very sad. it doesn't take much. Too many people think they are in control when they are skiing and many are not.
I have skied all over the world, heli-skiing, back country, glacier etc.... and I never wear a helmet, this year when we skied The Taos I said to my fiance' that I may start wearing a helmet and next season I will every time I ski. You just never know.

From what I have heard on this, is was a simple fall on a beginner run and not a serious incident. There is a question as to whether or not she perhaps hit some ice on the trail with her head which would normally have caused a concussion. In this case they believe she actually did some damage which may have caused a slow bleed in her brain and the pressure built causing permanent and irepairable damage leading to whats happening now.

Yep--our local news reported that she was indeed brain dead, and would be disconnected after family spends last time with her. They also said the accident DID happen on a BEGINNER slope. So sad...

I had a friend of mine die the same way about 10 years ago. He had a relatively small fall on a patio. Later that day he had a huge headache and went to the hospital. There was so much swelling that regardless of what they did including drilling to releave the pressure they couldn't control it. It's a shame and really makes you give pause when you bump your head or see someone else do it.

It is so tragic! I insist that my 13 yo son wears a helmet even though most of his friends do not. This is a perfect example how a minor fall and hit to the head can result in devasting consequences. Unfortunately my family know this all too well.

My brother was in a car accident 7 years ago while working as an undercover NYPD detective and walked out of the ER talking and laughing and then the following day when he awoke he could not speak. He suffered permanent brain damage due to a bleed in his frontal lobe that was originally not detected on the CAT scan. He has memory loss - only remembers 5 days prior and then his brain "resets". He has trouble reading, walking, and can no longer work.

My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family.

This is terribly tragic.

I think of the number of times I've skiied, aggressively, sans protection, and fallen with no consequence.
I'm done for this season, but I think a helmet is in my future ski plans :-?
