Any Big Love fans?
I've only watched it when nothing else was on in the hotel rooms while traveling on business, but the last few shows seemed to really click. Tomorrow night is Season Three's finale. Just currious if there's any other fans out there.

I watched Season 1, but lost interest by the time season 2 came along. I've heard some great stuff about season 3 and have thought about getting Season 2 on Netflix and catching up.

I like some of the cast, but...isn't bigamy illegal? although I've never been in the states that it is a common practice, (or is it?) :dunno:
.... the people I've seen that make the evening news regarding bigamy, certainly don't resemble any of the characters in this show. The women appear very plain and simple (nothing wrong with that) but, also, seem to be in fear of something...

What's the L word?
I'm still a fan at large. I need to NEtflix seans 1 and 2.
Really enjoy the dynamics of the show though.

Actually, that's exactly what they look like.....the polygamist culture is very strange.Moonie wrote:I like some of the cast, but...isn't bigamy illegal? although I've never been in the states that it is a common practice, (or is it?) :dunno:

Re: Any Big Love fans?
After the show aired, there were interviews with women living in polygamist marriages. These women looked like anyone walking down the street and the situations were very similiar to the show including the "traditional" dressing women and the more modern women.......pbans wrote:Actually, that's exactly what they look like.....the polygamist culture is very strange.Moonie wrote:I like some of the cast, but...isn't bigamy illegal? although I've never been in the states that it is a common practice, (or is it?) :dunno:

I think there is a big difference between polygamists that practice it as a religious view and those who just....well....practice it.MammaBear wrote:After the show aired, there were interviews with women living in polygamist marriages. Those who are FLDS, which is what Big Love is based on, are very different from mainstream society.

Re: Any Big Love fans?
my knowledge is very limited on actual polygamists. I do know actual plain and simple, living very close to a settlement of Mennonites, in OK. I have yet to encounter any of the women that appear to fear. Any of them I've been around are quite jovial, open and friendly. Plain and simple would be the only similarity between them and polygamists/FLDS.pbans wrote:I think there is a big difference between polygamists that practice it as a religious view and those who just....well....practice it.MammaBear wrote:After the show aired, there were interviews with women living in polygamist marriages. I have watched several specials re:polygamy and none of the women appeared to be modern.

Re: Any Big Love fans?
The last two seasons have been great.
I don't think all Polygmist are like those from the compounds. However, I can't be sure since I don't know any, and I am not going to judge by what "20/20" tells me.

what I saw wasn't on 20/20, to be sure, because that's regular commercial television, which I seldom watch.moog wrote:The last two seasons have been great.

Re: Any Big Love fans?
I think HBO did a documentary or news piece too. Not sure.
I missed the PBS multi part documentary.
Either way, no matter what religion, I do not put my trust in humans who claim they are prophets or a spokesperson for a god. Men are are the biggest offender on this power kick.

Re: Any Big Love fans?
I'm intrigued by the behavior of what people will do, even to thier family (blood relatives) to keep thier position/status/indentity in place with the bigger church. How could Barb's sister put Barb in a place where she'll spend eternity in hell? It's not personal, it's business.

It was a good one tonight. I'll leave it at that since there are a few more runs on this episode over the week.

Re: Any Big Love fans?
I watched seasons one and two and really enjoyed them, but didn't renew HBO to catch season 3.. Mostly out of protest that most of my favorite shows got canceled without proper resolutions. (Deadwood, Carnivale, Rome, etc). I will probably download season 3 or wait and Netflix it when it comes out.

Re: Any Big Love fans?
I agree. I no longer commit to new shows on HBO.
So, "Flight of the Conchords", "Entourage" and "True Blood" will not be seen by me. I won't watch them on DVD. I'm just getting to the "Rockford Files".
The lack of a third season greenlite on "Rome" was due to cost. However, I believe there was closure at the end of 2.

Re: Any Big Love fans?
I've asked My Wife to call me "THE PROPHET" on several occasions in the bedroom and she still denies my request everytime.
This newest season is the only one I've missed.
Waiting for the library to order it in the future and will watch it then.
