The Exon Valdez ran aground spilling 10.8 million gallons of crude. It still isn't all cleaned up.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

Wow, hard to believe that was already 20 years ago. What a blow that was to the wildlife in that area. I'm not surprised that its still not all cleaned up.

A few weeks ago at my job, the driver that pumps our oil tanks forgot his hose in the 500 gallon tank and drove off making a huge oil spill. It wasn't millions of gallons, more like 110 but was still quite a mess.
We now call him Exxon Valdez/Spill Kit.

For some reason this one really burns me up. I've bought $5.00 of gas from those arseholes in 20 years. The ONLY reason I spent $5.00 is I was right in the middle of BFE and was on empty.
And with all the billions upon billions of profits they've made over the past couple of years, it's easy to see they are planning on the public to have short term memories and an unwillingness to do anything to respond to their decision to pollute.

 And to the greedy, heartless Exxon bastards who STILL haven't paid up...I can't post what I think of you. :x

I have heard about other people who have never bought gas from Exxon since that spill.
I wonder how much they have lost in $$ and good will.

Obviously not enough. 80- 20 rule here. 80% of the population did not change their gas supplier.

The actual spilling of the oil didn't annoy me 1/10 as much as what it did to the creatures of the sea, and the callous attitude of the baffoons in charge of that company.
Anyone who read about and/or saw pictures of those poor animals and didn't get misty eyed, as far as I'm concerned, doesn't have a heart.

Thanks, Dan.
For the life of me, I just cannot understand the arrogance of the idiots running Exxon.

Yeah, they "apologized" for spilling the oil (which I'm not convinced to this day was sincere), but their attitude of the animals it harmed (saying "They're just animals") had smoke coming out of my ears.

As much as I love that sweet A-rab oil in my vehicles, I'll walk before I put one drop of Exxon gas in either of the ones I own.

This just frosts my buns... :x
What are the lessons of the Exxon Valdez? First, and most surprisingly, that spill-vulnerable single-hulled oil tankers still ply the seas—especially for Exxon. Bloomberg calculates that Exxon uses more single-hulled tankers than the rest of the ten biggest oil companies combined, and by doing so saved one penny a share last year.
Glad they've learned so much from their mistakes... :x :x :x I don't buy Exxon either.

20 years? Wow. I still remember the Shedd Aquarium who adopted the Valdez otters - that has always been one of my favorite exhibits.

It still galls me to hear that chant that came back just months ago.
Those not living on the coast just don't feel the same about this.

Sad as it is, I'm glad this this anniversary has come.
Like too many man-made tragedies, we are quickly encouraged to "move on".
This is one case we need to continually reflect on, and remember why we need to work faster toward alternatives to the black crack
